I used to be a really good swimmer, fly was my best stroke but due to a knee injury I had to quit for two years, im getting back into it but I'm nervous, I'm worried about rejoining my swimming club when I've lost my time and stamina, I'm trying to train by myself in the mornings but I think I would do better with a coach
I'm sorry for the delay I've had a lot of training going on. I think you should do it. But maybe a coach would help with the motivation. I myself had to stop swimming fly due to a back injury but I think I am going not challenge that next season and try again. I miss the stroke but I hope you're doing better and keep me posted
Been away at military college so I apologize for the lack of activity on here!
You're only as good as you choose to be.
So I've only been doing year round for ~ a year and I REALLY want to go to High School States for my 100 fly. I go a 1:10.54. Only problem is that I'm in a 3A school (2nd fastest division) and I need to drop ~5/6 seconds by February. Any advice on that race?????
Hi, fly used to be my specialty. I dedicated an entire season to the event so you're talking to the right person. That is a significant amount of time to drop, you have to be truly dedicated to it. Build your upper body and arm strength, do weights, push-ups and pull-ups. And straighten your core, a big part of fly is about the core. Your abs need to be strong to propel your legs, your legs always follow your core in fly. And swim fly whenever you get the chance in practice, you have to stay on top of it. When swimming it in a meet go all out, limit how many times you breathe like freestyle--breathing wastes times. And remember every little thing counts, your start and turns need to be on point and so does your finish. Those last few strokes are the "now or never moments" give it your all. I hope this helped. Please let me know as koi make progress and I hope you make the state cut! If you need anymore advice about anything please let me know! Best of luck! Train hard!

Hi, I'm 16 and a high school swimmer. I want to qualify for college swimming so I know I need to be able to do good starts and flipturns. I've only been swimming for a year. Do you have any advice on how to get a great flipturn and start?
Practice honestly makes perfect with swim. Ask your coach or someone with swim knowledge to watch your turns and stars. For starts and turns I would check YouTube as a reference if you need to. Make sure for turns that you go in fast and make sure your legs are shoulder width apart when they hit the wall and as you kick off. Do not cross your legs when you kick off and do not breathe off your turns it wastes time. Same goes with starts don't breath off your streamline. Please let me know if you need any other pointers I would love to help out.
Hey!! So I'm currently swimming around a 36 for my 50 free, but i really want to qualify for zones and potentially WPIALS this year. Do you have any suggestions on how I could cut my times drastically (like 7 seconds in the 50, ~10-20 seconds in the 100 free)? Thanks for being an inspiration and so positive!!
Hi stop breathing! And kick hella fast! For a 50 I only breathe once on the way back and I go a 25. It really comes down to breathing, it takes up a lot of times in sprints. And of course arm speed and kick are important. Also in the 50 there is no room for error along with the other sprints but make sure that everything is perfect, your start turn and streamline need to be perfect or else you won't get the time you want. In the 50 and sprints every little thing you do maters so strive for perfection. And don't breathe! I hope this helps. Update me with your times are your season goes on. Sign it as -panda just so I remember it's you (and I say panda only because I'm listening to that song rn lol)
hey! so every girl swimmers problem, red bumps on bikini line from shaving.. do you know of any ways to get rid of them or keep them from coming on??
Always shave with a fresh razor down there and I use conditioner and not shave gel it works better for me in that area. Also I apply plain scented Deodorant to the area after I shave, it seems to help. I saw it on Twitter once and gave it try and it works for me. I hope I helped. Let me know if you have any other questions.
I wasn't able to swim in high school or middle school because we didn't have teams, but I've wanted to swim my whole life. I want to join my college's masters swim team since there's no way I'm good enough for the varsity team. However, I'm afraid to be the only one who doesn't know the strokes or terminology. What advice can you give a new swimmer who's late to the game?
Hi so you might be later than some to the game but it's ok. Just keep in mind that it will take time. Familiarize yourself with the strokes. There are four official strokes: butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, and freestyle(frontcrawl). You can familiarize yourself by hitting up YouTube and watching some videos. Keep in mind that a flipturn is only performed for freestyle and backstroke; for fly and breast you need to do an open turn-which is a two hand touch on the wall. As far as technique...that will take time, but don't be discouraged. If you keep at it and try your best you will get it. And don't be afraid to ask questions! Questions are how we learn. But also observe those around you. Honestly, watching others is how I learned a lot. It will be hard, your lungs will feel like they're on fire, you will have days where you might wanna call it a quits we all do but don't let that get to you. I hope this helped....please don't hesitate to ask me any questions if you have them.
These will be my fourth year on varsity highschool swim but my school isn't sure if they are gonna be able to hire a new swim coach, should I switch schools my senior year or do club swim this fall/winter, if I don't get a coach.
Hi so it depends on what you're looking for with swim. If you wanna have a good season I would recommend going to club. I wouldn't say switch schools your senior year unless you're okay with that. And it depends on if you're swimming in college. If you are then you need to make the best decision so that you're prepared for college and so your times look good. I hope this helps. If you have other questions just lmk

so I took a year off from swim after high school and I'm officially swimming in college in the fall and I am so beyond happy to get back at it!! my 50 free time is only .30 seconds off from Olympic trial standard time so if I drop .30 or more I'm heading to the Olympic trials in 4 years!!! I'm so nervous and excited
Oh my gosh that is beyond exciting!!!!! I'm so sorry it took me a while to respond! Please keep me updated I hope you get it!!! Omg I'm so excited for you! Train hard, eat healthy, stretch a lot!!!
I'm going to Join my High School swim team soon, and I'm really excited! The only thing.. Is that I'm bad at math. So that means I'll be bad at counting laps and what in the world "4 x 200" means, or anything similar to that! What do I do? I feel like with all the swimming terms , I will get confused. I also do not have very good vision, so how will that go? I apologize for asking too much, but Thank you if you read this!
Hi I am so so sorry that I just saw this! I have been working a lot! I'll make it simple for you. 25= 1 length down (lap)50= 2 laps75= 3 laps100= 4 laps200=8 laps500=20 laps1000= 40 lapsNow 4x 200's simply means to swim 4, 200's, and a 200 is 8 laps. So in total for that set you will have swam 32 laps because 4 multiplied by 8 is 32. I hope that this helps. Again I am so sorry for the delay in response. Please ask me anything else if you need it!

The 200m free controversy
Purple is Jeremy Stravius, green swimmer who got 2nd Jordan Pothain , red circle Yannick Agnel
Seriously why is he ended 3rd? Where is the underwater video?
I haven’t watched the race video (is it really necessary though?) , but I’ve read a little about it… It’s crazy!! There’s obviously something wrong there… Hope the best for Yannick, been missing him, don’t know how well he can do it this time around - that is, IF he make it to the Olympics…
the feeling… it’s like being re-born… every… single… time…
Yes!!

I think that’s the biggest thing: if [Ryan] does [win the 400 IM in Rio], that he has to get mentally ready for it. Because talent wise, he can do it.
