Jasper Westphall is the child of Grayson Gilbert and a witch called Annette Wesphall born in 1987 (making them the half brothers of Jeremy Gilbert and the cousins of Elena Gilbert). Annette was 18 when she met Grayson at a college party, and though most were there for fun, Annette was there for something else. Annette was from a powerful witch coven that got itâs power from how many members it had, drawing a small amount of magic from any children born into the coven and giving it to the leader. So with power on the minds of Annetteâs coven, she was sent to grow the coven and a trip to America, lead her to the party where she met Grayson, a young man well into his college journey to become a doctor.
Her pregnancy was what the coven needed, growing the coven by more than one. A pregnancy that was never shared with the birth father. Annette gave birth to her kids ( triplets ) in England and raising them with the coven. Jasperâs life with his mother was conflicting. His mother loved him, but not more than she loved the coven and being skilled at magic was one of the only ways to get his mother attention. But due to their power being âgiftedâ to their covenâs leader, they were always going to be less powerful than a normal witch. Something that lead Jasper to seer magic. A type of magic that needed more than just brute-force to master.
Their lives were changed dramatically when an earthquake shook the city and their mother was killed along with many members of their coven, giving Jasper and his siblings the fresh start they needed, slipping away into the night, hoping the coven would just believe they were dead and move on without them. The death of his mother, caused Jasper to look into his birth father, tracking the man to Mystic Falls when it turned out the man had died just the summer before in a car crash. Leaving the Westphall siblings truly alone in the world. So they did what any normal young adults would do and they went a trip around the world, backpacking till they had seen everything their hearts desired. They celebrated their 25th birthday in new orleans. A place Jasper realizing was an easy source of money with his seer powers.
Jasper had been dating for a while when the visions came, seeing a future in which he dead shortly after he turned 25. His girlfriend growing more and more panicked as the possible day got closer and closer, before she took things into her own hands and placed him under a sleep spell just the day before Kaleb, Jasperâs twin was kidnapped by Esther and Kol took over his body. Jasper still unsure if the death she had seen was his or his brothers. Wondering if Esther was meant to take him instead of his twin.
For some reason Jasperâs girlfriend never came back for his and he was under a sleep spell till he woke up when magic was ended 2 months ago, making his way to mystic falls in the hopes of finding some kind of family, even if it was just someone related to his father to help him out. Unknown to Jasper as there was no magic, but with every other remember of his coven having died over the 18 years that he was asleep, he now holds the powers of their coven and is by default the coven regent/leader, and another witch would have to kill him to take the magic back from him.
