This idea has been on my mind for so long! I cannot be happier that I finally had the time to do it. I’m sure it’s probably been done before but I wanted to throw my hat in the ring. And I’m glad I did, cause I’m really happy with how it turned out. 

I know this wasn’t people’s favourite, but it touched on so many important points.

1.) Sexual assault & consent: This should be the main point of discussion this episode in my opinion. What an important topic. I was so disappointed that the other girls and even Gilbert didn’t seem to care about Josie. Anne, they all need you!

2.) This show really GETS teenage awkwardness, and heartbreak, and seeing your crush at an inopportune moment. Probably the biggest change in Anne with an E vs. source material is that Anne and Gilbert’s relationship is so much richer, and their friendship is so much more profound. She also becomes in touch with her feelings much earlier. GUYS! IT IS SUCH A BIG DEAL THAT SHE HAS REALIZED SHE HAS FEELINGS FOR GILBERT. Another thing I also liked was that this entire dynamic Anne-Gilbert-Winnie was presented from Anne’s perspective. Seeing your crush with someone else is the most relatable sinking feeling in the world. We’ll probably see how Gilbert feels about it in later episodes.

Until I see evidence otherwise, Winnifred is a nice person and has done literally nothing wrong. AND NEITHER HAS GILBERT. It was thoughtful that she asked Anne how she spells her name. I know some people are adamant about hating her, but this was actually so nice. I do think that they have given the Anne/Roy storyline to Gilbert (especially since it is hinted that Winnifred’s family has connections), which is an interesting change. Gilbert will probably in the end decide to say no to help from Winnifred’s family because he is in love with Anne.

Gilbert had very little personality and virtually no storyline in the books. Being hopelessly in love with Anne for 6+ years while she ignores him is not a personality and does not make him an interesting and fully-fledged character. AWAE Gilbert is reaching his full potential. I will die on this hill.
