Hey, hi, hello! So, yes, I’m still active (although not tecnhically for the last few days) but I’ve not been here at all because the worst possible thing when it comes to productivity ofr me happened: I took on too many threads, projects, etc and started feeling overwhelmed and that’s the sort of thing that can paralyze me and sap all of my mental energy. Since the last time I put anything out I’ve been trying to write, but I’ve managed to write maybe a line a day, which is garbage. I wanted to do things faster and not leave people waiting, which is something that paradoxically makes me more likely to leave people waiting because I don’t do anything.

I wanted to post a lot of things in a single day so I wouldn’t have a bunch of drafts all at once and I’d feel less stressed, but that hasn’t worked out. So then I don’t want to be here and talk to people because I feel bad and I ignore everybody hoping that things will work out before anyone notices, but that has never worked before so why did I expect it to work here IDK

But I like playing Lucius, and I still do it, I just might need some time to… get into the right mindset to write anything substantial? Look at my drafts and not groan?

Sorry for being away for this long and not even letting a message, but that’s because I never planned to go so damn long without even saying hi.

So that’s that.

“Perhaps. I guess we’ll never know.” Normally he would rather avoid marring his record or wasting his time with detention, but riling Bellatrix up might be worth the sacrifice.

“Don’t act like it’s the first time we’re in the same class, Malfoy.“ came the reply in a whisper so as not to be heard by Slughorn. Of course he wouldn’t admit to it, not to her- better to pretend he had no idea what she was on, hm? They should call him Lucius ‘Golden Tongue‘ Malfoy by now.

“You know this won’t help your N.E.W.T.s one bit, right? The exams aren’t administered by Hogwarts.“

He shrugged dismissively, brushing the unused bits of his Sopophorous beans in a tray.

It’s like Lucius Just keeps teaching everyone wrong

“I believe your father approached her, much to her surprise. Mother is quite thrilled with the opportunity.“ Narcissa informed him, keeping her face perfectly clear of any indication of her feelings towards such an arrangement. While she was glad for it, relieved even to a certain extent, she knew very well her personal preferences weren’t going to make a difference in this. It seemed better to keep them out of it entirely than to complicate the matter further.

She wondered how Lucius would think about it, but didn’t dare ask just yet. Admittedly, if it’d been her choice to make she’d been very likely to have picked him as well. “She did emphasize how important this- arrangement, is to our family at the moment. I assume your father thought the same.“

“Ah.” Was the only answer he could manage.

He was sure Druella Black would’ve thought the matter was important. After the fiasco with Andromeda the House of Black would want to make an alliance with a respectable pureblood family, to assure prying eyes that they were, as they had always been, committed to the purity of their lineage. As the Malfoys were good at managing their public image it would make sense for them to want the association.

Abraxas reason for wanting the match were less obvious, but Lucius knew them too well, and he was ashamed of them. Their ancestry was commendable, but not unblemished. The half-bloods that featured in their family tree were a well kept secret, but a humiliation nonetheless, and Lucius knew his father felt it keenly. The Blacks had squibs and traitors, but those were just branches, easy enough to snap off. There was nothing wrong with their roots.

Lucius couldn’t blame his for thinking a marriage between him and Narcissa was a good idea – he agreed with him – but he could certainly blame him for acting behind his back. Abraxas should’ve told him; should’ve treated as more than a child, because he was certainly capable of deciding those things for himself; he should’ve… Lucius realized he was too furious to think properly when he noticed his hands closing into fists. It would be best to calm down least he take it out on Narcissa. That would be stupid, especially with how their relationship would change in the coming months, not thanks to him.

Lucius bit a large piece of toast so he wouldn’t say something he’d regret later.

Lucius didn’t have the desire or the energy to raise to the bait. None of what happened had been his idea, and he couldn’t point to which of his actions had led them to where they were now, but if he could go back and change things he would in a heartbeat, but Draco didn’t necessarily see it from his perspective. Whatever happened while Lucius was in Azkaban had taken its tool on him.

It would no doubt be better to let his son ride the anger out, but that knowledge didn’t keep the bitterness out of his tone.

The invitations were sent out, a small group showed to the gate and very quickly one could see who would be the victor. His selection process had been by name and reputation alone but this blonde young man…he just looked like everything Salazar was looking for in an apprentice,he was practically rooting for him to win and like hoped there he was arising the champion of Salazar’s little challenges and made his way into the grand hallway. 

“I was hoping it would be you” he praised the young man aparating right next to him and admired how dashing he looked, holding himself with a near regal presence and dressed in fine clothing,yes, they had barely met and Salazar saw a kindred spirit in the young mage. “I do not normally actively root for someone but well…if you have lived as long as I have….sometimes a glimpse is all it takes to recognize grandeur. Yes, excellent you will do nicely. What do I call you young man?”

When Lucius received the invitation he could scarcely believe it at first. Few could boast about being singled out by Salazar Slytherin, but (he remembered belatedly) he wasn’t common, even among other wizards. They weren’t equals by any stretch of the imagination, but if what the man wanted was an apprentice, then why not him? He was as capable as any, if not more so, and his ancestry was pure. He didn’t let doubt take root.

Lucius accepted the invitation without hesitation. He possessed enough self-awareness to know he wasn’t the best duelist, or the strongest, or fastest, or smartest, but he was the best at getting what he wanted, and as he entered Salazar’s entrance hall he was gratified upon learning that he was the one to make it through all the obstacles and he was the one who’d have the privilege of being taught by one of the greatest wizards who ever lived.

That, coupled with the man seemed pleased to have him there, sent Lucius over the moon.
