being dated by a cis lesbian is not a human right. romantic rejection is not discrimination. I don’t date all sorts of people and it doesn’t mean I hate them or don’t see their value as human beings. dating requires us to define our boundaries by definition. 

stop this harmful narrative. some cis lesbians spend years of their lives trying to be into dick, trying to get themselves to tolerate it and they just couldn’t. they’re told they’re bigots and fetishists for only wanting to date people with female anatomy. stop perpetuating lesbophobia. lesbians are entitled to their sexual boundaries just like everyone else. 

2. Many trans women spend years of their lives trying to be comfortable with anatomy that makes them dysphoric, trying to get themselves to tolerate it, and they just can’t. Then they’re told they’re bigots and fetishists for loving who they want to love. Shouldn’t your experience of homophobia make you more empathetic to the plight of trans lesbians, not less?

3. The reason this scene doesn’t mention “straight men who don’t want to date trans women” is that the character in question is... a lesbian! She’s not interested in dating straight men! Her clearly-defined sexual boundaries mean that she’s attracted to other women - namely, other lesbians. And it just so happens that a not-insignificant number of cis lesbians, like yourself, automatically regard trans women as unfit partners. This is a real-world issue - as you’ve just proven, thanks - and I wanted to use this platform to validate trans girls who find themselves on the receiving end of hurtful treatment.

4. Nobody is forcing you or any other cis person to date trans partners. If you actually read the text of this scene, Aisha doesn’t even hold that stance. She says, “Dating can get rough when you’re trans. Especially if you’re a trans girl who likes girls. Cis lesbians... aren’t always into that.” She is fully acknowledging the “sexual boundaries,” to use your phrasing, of the women in question, and simultaneously expressing that their pre-emptive rejection hurts her feelings. 

5. Your definition of a lesbian as someone who “tried their hardest to like dick but just couldn’t” and “only wants to date people with female anatomy” would imply you only want to date people with vaginas. Does that mean that your dating pool includes trans men who have vaginas? Probably not, right, because an integral element of lesbianism is dating, well, women. So why does your definition of lesbianism include some men but not all women? 

6. I’m going to leave you with this video by Natalie Wynn, a trans woman who dates women, which addresses viewpoints similar to yours. I really hope you’ll watch it and consider her points and the points I’ve made thoughtfully.

There are still major folding creases in them.
