Random Thoughts

Honestly how can it be illegal for employers to discriminate against job candidates based on race, gender, and sexual orientation, but it's TOTALLY fine to rule out potentially the most qualified candidate just because they look to be what society has defined as "rebellious" or an outlaw or some other bullshit.  Should we really be promoting the idea to children that in order to succeed and get a good job you MUST look very conservative?  If you even have one visible tattoo or an uncommon hair color you are clearly a much more risky person and cannot be trusted to be responsible in a "serious" job.  What the actual fuck.  We are essentially showing children that they should not take any ownership or control over their body/appearance that would be considered unusual by a societal standard EVEN IF it makes them feel incredibly happy and more like themselves.  We are showing our children that repression of certain urges they have to express themselves will be rewarded by being viewed as a "serious, responsible adult".   WHY CAN'T A PERSON HAVE PINK HAIR, BE COVERED IN TATTOOS AND STILL CONSIDERED TO BE RESPONSIBLE?! Children should not have to sacrifice their happiness and essentially who they are just so they won't be picked on in society.  You want to know how to end bullying: show our children examples of role models who express themselves in unusual, creative ways.  As we teach our children more about acceptance of who we are no matter how strange, we will see less hatred towards those children who are "different".  It's too bad the number of adults who are judgmental so strongly influence our children to "fit in".  

It’s insane how many words are so emotionally charged because of the ways people have used them.  I feel like you’re on one of two sides when it comes to “bad” words: They are incredibly demeaning/hurtful, therefore we should never speak them or these words need to be re-claimed and have a new meaning associated with them.  However, the only people who can reclaim these words are those whom they are being used against.  I can understand how a black person would be incredibly offended and uncomfortable if someone said the n-word around them (even if it’s used in a context that isn’t meant to disrespect them).  But at the same time, wouldn’t it be more beneficial to you to just let it go and use the word, yourself, in a more positive context? If every person turned it around and redefined a derogatory word that pertained to them, it would be almost impossible to genuinely insult someone.  That would be pretty rad, just sayin’. 

Why do people like to invalidate other people’s feelings? There’s some people who think it’s ridiculous to express any kind of despair you’re having over something that is seemingly “trivial” in comparison to natural disasters, deaths, rapes, etc.  Isn’t pain relative?  How apathetic is it to discredit someone’s emotions? At the same time, seeing anyone complain in a public forum (i.e. social media), seeking attention for something (even if it is as major as death) disgusts me for some reason.  I understand that it’s natural to feel like you need someone to acknowledge you’re having a hard time. It can make you feel less alone.  But seriously, there is nothing harder to do than see people who are constantly seeking attention in some low ways (Facebook statuses) receive more praise and love than those who quietly deal with the cards dealt to them.  It’s as if someone who makes their tragedies public is experiencing more pain/is “stronger” (what does that even mean when people say that? I cannot understand that phrase) than someone who won’t spill their guts and dramatize everything.  As people, we seem to pay no attention/give no love to those who really need it.  We would all forget each other’s birthdays if it weren’t for Facebook.  And it seems we would give no emotional support to someone who isn’t running around begging for it.  How sad is that?

I feel like it's fully possible that the whole world around me is a projection of my own mind.  But I have no ability to control or manipulate it because I would need to fully believe that I could control my surroundings in order to actual do it.  And to believe that I have that ability would make me "insane" in this world I possibly created.  Every person I know could be an element of myself that I separated in my universe my mind has formed.   Essentially being too scared to break the rules “society” (me) has devised holds me back from ever being able to shape this world.  I've read too much Emerson and Thoreau and now I've gone way too far with this
