Chapter 5- warm and fuzzy

It was the day of Milton being released back into the ocean, the day Stevie dreaded. He didn't want the mermaid to go away, if he was to be honest, the tarantula wished he could stay forever. Stevie was thinking about fake being sick so he doesn't have to deal with the heartbreak of leaving his best friend behind, but the idea of Milton going back into the sea and never even getting to say goodbye to him is too sad of a thought to bear so he decided to go to work anyways. He, Lou, and Moe got into the car and started to go to the valley sea research facility, the shark noticed Stevie's sad look and was worried for him.
Stevie went to Milton's enclosure before he's put in one of those carriers for his return into the sea, the mermaid noticed the tarantula's presence and got excited.
โHello dear boy!โ he said cheerfully, but he noticed how tired and sad Stevie looked. It hurts for him to know that his best friend is burdened by him returning to his home soon. He then realizes something, maybe this could make Stevie feel better.
โHey Stevie, I perhaps have thought of something that help us keep in contact after I return to the sea,โ
โWhat is it?โ
โPerhaps if it's possible, you could sneak out at night and meet me near where I live,โ
Stevie just stared at Milton in disbelief, sneaking out to the sea during night time?. He would absolutely love to do that, but there's a massive problem. Stevie needs to tell someone about this, which will end up having him admit to the said person that he has a massive crush on the mermaid. This could go horribly wrong, he could get made fun of by his other coworkers and he doesn't even want to think about how Rhonda will react to it. But Stevie is willing to try, just to make that sweetheart of a mermaid happy (and himself too).
โOkay, I'll try to, but please don't be upset if I'm unable to visit you,โ Stevie quietly said, to which Milton's tail started to wag out of happiness. The tarantula smiled shyly, happy to be able to have a plan to see him again after he returned to the sea. Rhonda walked towards Stevie and told him it was time to start getting ready to get on the boat, she noticed that he looked a bit nervous.
โStevie, are you okay?โ
โO-oh yeah, I'm okay,โ he replied, failing to sound as normal as possible.
โI know you're lying legs, I know this is hard for you but believe me. This is for the best for Milton, we can't let anyone find out about him,โ Rhonda said while putting a paw on his shoulder, trying to comfort the tarantula.
Stevie and Rhonda went outside to wait for Ellen to drive to the parking lot of the valley sea research facility, Moe is gonna drive abe, gumbo, and lou to dock while Ellen drives Rhonda, Stevie, Zee, and Milton there too. Zee took out a blunt and lit it with a pickle lighter, took a huff from it and exhaled it.
โAre you seriously smoking around Milton, this could hurt him?!โ
โRelax beautiful spider, Rhonda told me not to smoke around the sea animals, and Milton is a mermaid, not a sea animal,โ
โStill it can hurt him you dumbass,โ
โStevie and Zee, calm down please,โ Rhonda interrupted.
โPardon me, but what is a blunt?โ
โDon't worry about it,โ Stevie gently told Milton while he was in a temporary cage for traveling to the sea.
Eventually Ellen showed up in the parking lot, she's the adopted daughter of Rhonda and works as an elementary school teacher. Rhonda trusted Ellen with keeping Milton a secret, sometimes while he recovered, Ellen brought him little pool toys to keep him entertained. She and Lou helped lift Milton's cage from the ground and into Ellen's blue minivan. Rhonda, Zee, and Ellen got in, but before Stevie got in he told Lou if they could have a talk after they got back home.
An half an hour later the gang (besides Ellen) was on the boat, traveling to the part of the sea where Milton resides. Lou noticed that Stevie kept staring at the plesiosaurs with such a soft expression, he wonders if there's something going on between those two. Meanwhile Abe was struggling to keep Zee from falling off of the boat from how stoned he is, with Moe laughing at them. Gumbo stopped driving the boat as soon as they're at the destination, it was time for Milton to return to the sea. Milton and Stevie stared at each other quietly, neither one of the two wanted to say goodbye. As Milton got out of his cage, Stevie leapt onto him, surprising the mermaid.
โI'm gonna miss youโฆโ
โMe too dear boy,โ Milton gently whispered, smiling sadly as he hugged Stevie back. Milton gave him back to Lou, a gentle blush crept onto the plesiosaur's face as he stared at the tarantula getting comforted by the shark.
โGoodbye everyone, especially Stevie,โ
โGoodbye Miltonโฆโ
Lou decided to take Stevie to the diner, which the tarantula appreciated even though it made the talk he wanted to have with the shark a bit more difficult to keep secret. Lou was sipping on some iced tea, waiting for their food to arrive.
โSoooo, what is this thing you wanted to talk to me about?โ
Stevie sighed, while staring at his little cup of mountain dew, here goes nothing.
โYou know Milton, the guy we helped take care of while he recovered?โ
โOh yeah, he was such a sweet m-โ
โSHUSH, WE CAN'T LET OTHER PEOPLE KNOW THAT,โ Stevie squeaked at Lou, which confused a few people.
โOh right sorry, what about him?โ Lou asked as their waiter Doom was giving the two their food, tomato soup with a salad for Lou and fried grasshopper and flies for Stevie.
โMilton was such a great friend, he was so sweet, so kind, so smart, so gentle, so prettyโฆโ
โLet me guess, you have a crush on him?โ
Stevie nearly choked on one of his fried grasshopper, how did Lou know that?
โH-how the hell d-did you e-even know that, I thought I managed to keep it a secret,โ
Lou smirked, "I mean who else constantly talks about Milton during breaks and at home, also you spend a lot of your breaks in the enclosure Milton was in,โ.
The tarantula's face went red from being both embarrassed and flustered at the same time.
โOk-okay you m-me, but there's also another thing I have to say. Milton suggested that I sneak out at night to visit him in the ocean, you wouldn't mind helping me please?โ Stevie asked Lou.
โSure I'll help you out, since we're doing at sea work for the next two weeks, it will be even more convenient since Rhonda will probably think you're doing extra research,โ he happily replied.
โThank you Lou for willing to help me with this situation,โ
โYou're welcome legs,โ Lou said with a gentle smile.
โJust so you two know I eavesdroped on your conversation,โ Doom casually interrupts the two's conversation.
โIf I tip you 5 dollars, you won't tell anybody else what you heard Doom, deal?โ
โDealโ the emo bird said snarky.
