As the world gets ready for the 2016 Olympics, what has its Brazil Instagram account been busy with? Let’s take a quick look at Rio 2016′s account activity this week.

1. It was a week of countdowns, event updates and behind-the-scenes action such as this one where Rafael Nadal was captured training at an Olympic park.

2. @rio2016 also promoted their Snapchat account with a blooper video of the Ireland Hockey team - and did so during the week when Instagram released its Snapchat-like feature! Instagram calls it Instagram Stories, if you haven’t heard.

3. Here’s a couple of their most engaging posts this week:

i. The post that garnered the most likes was @rio2016′s last countdown post.

ii. The most commented post with persons as a subject is an image of two football players - one from Brazil and the other from South Africa. (Its caption reads “In just a little while, Brazil's men's football team will go against South Africa in the Olympic Games. Who will win?”.)

Instagram Hashtag: #POKEMONGO

Instagram posts tagged with #PokemonGo have reached over 3 million posts!

In the week of July 17 to July 24, 2016 - an estimate of 137,734 posts were tagged each day. 

Users have been sharing screenshots of the game and posts of related merchandise.

While the past few weeks saw an increasing trend, the posts are increasing at a slower rate across time even after the game was launched in Japan, its home on July 22, 2016. 

Will it increase at a faster rate once it launches in other Asian countries?

This is the most liked and most commented Instagram post from Japan’s largest outdoor music event, Fuji Rock Festival. 

This year’s festival took place from the 22nd to the 24th of July.

If you’re hearing this event for the first time, here are some interesting facts!

Fuji Rock Festivals take place near Mount Fuji for several days - attracting fans of well-known international and local artists.

Participating artists are mostly from rock and electronic music scenes. 

Tourists and first-timers often have very favorable impressions about the festival’s delicious food, clean toilets and even pleasant crowds!

The festival just celebrated its 20th year.

Selena Gomez was recently declared the most followed person on Instagram. Her Instagram followers are more than 90 million - and counting! Which hashtags are giving her the most likes & comments recently?*

1. #KillEmWithKindness 

The day before Selena’s Kill Em With Kindness music video was released, she posted a video teaser on her account. 

As of today, her teaser post garnered almost 1.9 million likes and 44,000 comments.

2. #LeanInTogether

On June 24, 2016, the celebrity posted a video promoting a movement that empowers women.

As of today, the hashtag gave her campaign post 1.4 million likes and 7,800 comments.

Her secrets to managing her own account?

We don’t have a magic formula but in her last Hollywood Reporter interview, Selena implied that she was just being herself.

"It comes in a moment when I capture something happening, and I go, ‘Oh, that would be great for Instagram. I should post it.' I know it's boring, but that's genuinely what I do," adding, "It wasn't my goal to be the most followed person."

TIP FOR MARKETERS! 

You can use hashtags from a popular user to engage Instagram users i) of similar demographics as the popular user ii) who are likely to use the hashtag. Why? Those users could be exploring the hashtag, and if they find your post attractive, they can be generous with likes and comments. Just make sure that the hashtag is relevant to the post you're publishing!

Instagram is seeing more and more posts tagged with #Ghostbusters. First premiered in Los Angeles on July 9, 2016, it is now being released in cinemas around the world. 

As we write this article, Instagram posts tagged with #Ghostbusters have exceeded the 600K mark.
