               GETTING TO HIS place without his noticing hadn’t been easy, thankfully he was busy most of the time. She’d put everything in one box  &  wrapped it with newspaper pages, wrapping a red ribbon around it. It wasn’t the most romantic thing, but it was fitting given that they had worked at the Bugle. 

               Inside, there were three items. The first was a mug for him to use specifically whenever she was around. It would also ensure that he remembered her whenever she was up in space doing her thing. The second was a pretty cool camera lens that you attached to your phone to take better pictures. Finally, there was a truth or dare game with a twist. He would appreciate it because of how they had started their relationship. Finally, she left him a note that said: Happy Valentine’s Day !!! Signed with her name, he had no idea that she was around. Peter would probably just assume that she’d put Jess up to this. However, she planned to surprised him later by showing up at his doorstep. 

                                  “ Off I go… ”

     The beep of his phone said someone was in his room. His place had gotten a little more technological since his whole life did. The cameras showed nothing, no person, no shadow moving inside, so he assumed it was a fly, or worse, a rat, or worse, a spider. Peter shrugged and saved the iPhone back into his pocket; he shouldn’t be losing time when Carol could get to her apartment any moment. He took a look at the box on the passenger’s seat, a heart made of webs inside with a note: Happy Valentine’s Day !!! Signed with his name.

      He was part of the present as well, hidden under the bed until she would arrive. An hour passed and nothing, laying on the floor was starting to get painful, but when Peter was about to give up, the lights turned on and he could hear Carol’s breathing at the same time his spidey-sense was activated. It was funny how he missed even her breathing, the smell he immediately caught.

              “Surprise!”

Honestly, her cooking wasn’t as atrocious as everyone  wanted to believe. She did cook for herself after all, most of the time. Yet she was distracted from her own thoughts  as he complimented her, an eyebrow raised as if waiting for confirmation that she hadn’t misheard him.

                      “ It’s not like my cooking would kill you. I don’t think so anyways.                             Did you just call me ‘ beautiful ’ ?  Smooth, Parker, smooth.                                 Not unless you want some, I don’t really drink anymore. ”

   Bad choice of words. How would he explain the word    beautiful now? He wanted to sound smooth, just not that    smooth and obvious. He needed to control his mouth    better. Trying her cooking would be interesting, Peter    decided.

                Calm  &  collected as she always seemed to appear, it took a heartbeat for her to crack a slow smile at his nervous laugh. Carol had already learnt everything that there was to know about him, making it easy to charm her way into his life. He clearly hadn’t gotten over certain things in his past, but was overall ( or so it seemed ) a pretty regular guy, a typical good guy. Was it all an act ?

              The blonde tried to tune out the voices of Peter’s co-workers pretending to be a lot sneakier than they actually were. No doubt wondering what he’d done to land such a date so quickly. Pushing them out, she leaned against the counter. “ I’m doing well, thank you. Before we get going, did you get a chance to work on my phone ? I need it to deal with work related issues. ” It wasn’t exactly a lie, but she did have another phone. Her real cellphone. “ Are we taking your car or mine ? ”

     Peter had spent two minutes fixing her phone. It was the easiest job he’d ever made, he was surprised how no one could do it before. Perhaps Carol wasn’t the best at technology, and would that be a disadvantage if things ended up the way he wanted? He looked at her again and decided that nothing of that mattered. “Oh, of course, yes! I fixed it already. Here.” Her phone was in a little plastic, transparent bag as all devices were returned. “It’s charged and all.”

                     “ You just act all innocent to deter suspicion. ”

    “Like THIS. With the cash and- Suit? In the wash.                              With the rest of my understanding.”

                      “ Sure. I bet you two sit down to chat about women  &  what not. ”

     “Of course! We should just have a club for all the insect monikers of the team. Call it; the hive.

     “  No, we don’t want that. But I gotta say, you swung in just in the nick of time. ”

     “ High five! Or, low five? Tiny five—the point is, we should celebrate! ”

“Sure, Spidey. And no. I function quite well without someone by my side. It’s not the first thing on my mind. My missions are.”

    “You’re not supposed to be here, Webhead…                                I didn’t want you to see this.”

               “Perhaps.  With my powers, some might say I can do                just about anything.  But I’m no telepath, I’m afraid.”
