so where does all this sort of empowering shit tie in with gerard way you may ask? where does this shit have a correlation with me losing my shit over some bitch called sherrif gerard?
well! im so upset that you asked!
in 2007, my chemical romance toured w linkin park and several other bands for projekt revolution. really good year for prorev. during one point, gerard dons this outfit for a concert
very powerful. very cool. it has an energy. a look. this outfit has been affectionately appointed as gerards "sheriff" look.
so whats the problem you ask again? why am i bitching about this outfit so much, and what does it have to do with the little history lesson i had to give you fuckers?
well first off. i hate this look because my brain perceives this instance of gerard way as some sort of uncanny valley-type thing, in which somehow. some way. he looks like michael jackson to me. i like to call him gerard jackson. anyway. dont ask how. i dont know either and i dont need to have another freakout over this
secondly......if you havent guessed already i have a bone to pick with this because of the - you guessed it! - red handkerchief that completes the look! normally i would write this off as just another stage outfit, likened towards the black button ups & red tied, and black parade jackets. however. (hi i had to rewrite the entirety of what comes next tumblr deleted it)
when you put together the facts that homoeroticism and the like is inherent to the emo scene (bands off the top of my head r thursday and the used....etc. i wish not to talk about panic or fob) and campy elements have always been in mcr's music and [gerard's] performances, most notably during the black parade era (and prorev where uh. you know. famous onstage gay shit), it makes you wonder. was gerard aware of the hanky code back then. they always were an outspoken advocate for the lgbt community (as are the rest of the members), and was never rlly ignorant on the issues or the lifestyles/customs of the community (if this statement is misinformed and wrong then please bro. feel free to tell me) ....... so. hrm. thinking about this is giving me brain damage but oh fine
for those of you who may be unfamiliar with THE hanky code....basically all you need to know is that a hanky on the left side of the body means the wearer likes to give/perform the act, and a hanky on the right side of the body means the wearer likes to be on the receiving end of the act. some folks tie the hanky around their neck to signify that they can switch from whichever/like both. and that a plain red hanky, based on its shade, means youre into fistfucking (regular or bright red) or if you want to be extra-specific, double-handed fistfucking (dark red). so when you take into consideration that emo is inherently gay and that gway themself wasnt a stranger to gay [and campy] shit both on and offstage. and they not only had the (normal shade, as ive found, not dark) red hanky around their neck and later shoved into their left pocket.
it begs the question once more. were they aware of the connotations that wearing a red handkerchief had? and if they were, and chose the red on purpose and not just because it looked swaggy as shit, why? was it because they were. sincere and straight up using the hanky code? gay rights? or because they thought it would be funny? or was it for ironic and campy stage persona purposes? a combination of all of them? a whole nother theory that i havent even realized? were they even aware? the answer is that i really dont want to fucking know, personally! like good for them and all! but i dont want to know! the past hour and a half writing this has been hell quite frankly! thanks for reading and making it this far
party poisons design features a black bandana on their right wrist and a. yellow. one wrapped around their leg. i dont want to delve into this much longer because im going to go insane but im pretty sure you can already tell what im trying to explain
anyway thanks again. im crying from frustration disgust shame and rage ❤️ fuck all of you for wanting this you all owe me financial compensation for mental and emotional damages i sustained while writing this
