Strange Magic Princess and the Pauper type Modern Royalty AU

Hear me out folks:

 Dawn lives with her royal father while her sister moved with their mom after some extremely messy divorce… 

and after her mom died, Marianne supports herself on her own and once dated this guy who wanted her because he’d found out about her relationship to said royalty (which she keeps very hidden because she doesn’t want anything to do with it)… she dumps his ass and pretty much swears off love and politics simultaneously…

but anyways, Dawn the well-meaning party girl princess, has decided against her father’s express wishes to secretly contact her older sister, and after some wide-eyed begging convinces Marianne to play switch for like, a weekend tops. Just because Dawn wants SO MUCH to see what normal life is like, what going to college and just being a girl, not a princess, is like. 

(idk how they’d do this. I can see Dawn wearing a wig and Marianne just claiming that ‘Dawn’ had dyed her hair brunette - she’s already got a reputation for being somewhat ‘outrageous’ by the press so they go with it.)

Of course this all completely unravels when Dawn meets a cheerful musician boy named Sunny… And Marianne meets the king of the neighboring country…

HAPPY ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY TO IT TAKES TWO! 

I can’t believe it’s been a year. I mean, I finished the fic in January? February? But still, wow. It’s listed as the highest kudos’d, commented on, bookmarked fic I have on ao3, not to mention the LONGEST fic I’ve EVER written. 

How is this fic like three years old now? I sometimes feel like I just finished it! 

@suzie-guru reawakened my love for this au.

He was one of the first character models to be finalized. After that, very few changes were made to his design. Yet, at the time his design was finalized, he was not intended to be there love interest. He was only supposed to be a villian. There’s that animation test floating around of Bog using audio of Alan Cumming that the animators have said was specifically made to convince people that that character could be sympathetic.

Bog’s design was made with the idea of him being a villain, not a handsome leading man. Even with other stories where the villain or a monstrous character ends up being in love with the main character, they’re still designing them with the idea of that romance in mind. They’re still, maybe even only subconsciously, creating a character that is supposed to be understood to be attractive.

Bog isn’t like that. He ended up being so handsome and dashing because of his villinous and monsters qualities, instead of in spite of them. He is softened by his actions and his expression, not by the purposeful addition of something to make him look more traditionally attractive.

Marianne: You just gestured to all of me.

This is a story about two kingdoms, side by side, but worlds apart. And at war.

When the Bog King finally wins his war against the Fairy Kingdom, he decides that a political marriage with the eldest daughter of the deposed Fairy King will help to promote peace. 

Obviously, he’s never met Marianne.

The war for love is over. The Fairy Kingdom has lost.

The King of the Dark Forest has outlawed love throughout all his lands—lands which now include the former Fairy Kingdom.

So it is understood implicitly that the marriage which has been arranged between the King of the Dark Forest and Princess Marianne, the eldest daughter of the deposed Fairy King, is to be political in nature only.

Princess Marianne is not best pleased.

Roland:  “So, is everything ready for tonight?”

Sunny:  “Oh, yeah. I thought we’d start off with soup and a light salad, and then see how we feel after that.”

Roland:  “Not the dinner!  The, you know…”

Sunny:  “Oh, right!  The potion.  The potion for Marianne, the potion chosen specially to make Marianne love you, Marianne’s potion.”

Roland:  “…”

Sunny:  “…That potion?”

Roland:  “YES!  That potion!

Sunny:  “Got you covered.”

Roland:  “Excellent!  A little dust in her eyes, then I’ll propose again, and be king before dessert!”

Flight through the Forest

This is certainly one of the pictures I worked the longest on, oh boy. :’D I’m still not very well practiced with detailed backgrounds and environment lights, so when @weakforbutterbog showed the incredible detailed sketch of this pic I saw this as opportunity to get some practice. (And it screamed “Color me!” xD) Never worked with so many different green tones and I hope I caught the forest feeling in this one well enough, as well as the light/shadows.  I certainly had my fun, but I’m also happy that I finally finished it.
