Veles just stared at him in shock. They liked him? That was news to him. “Oh. Well I didn’t know that there. I don’t like them like that. I don’t really like them anyway.” He was so unaware of someone liking him he now was wondering who else he missed. That and what did he like? Honestly he hadn’t really thought about it. His life was sports and pretending he had two legs which made balancing easier.Â
“Yeah I can’t even sneak food that I can’t have but want in. If I do that I feel like there is a war going on in my stomach and that just means more time in the hospital.” He didn’t like that but he would go on with it. Thankfully he could have most things but he couldn’t have pepperoni, anything with spicy in the title, and other things. He really wanted to know but he couldn’t risk it. Man he was hungry right now. “Well I mean I got Poncho and they took a leg. So it doesn’t look pretty without the sleeve on it. And it’s pretty boring honestly. I want someone to paint it in like all sorts of things. It shows and if I have to have one I’m not going to blend in with the rest of the world. Nah, I want to stand out and maybe you know make someone feel better about having prosthetic. Nothing shameful about having one.”
Gael nodded. “That usually does mean they like you…but you don’t have to like them either.” Honestly, Gael was glad he didn’t like them. He would have been mighty jealous if he learned that Veles had taken a liking to any of the girls. Gael liked him. There was no denying it. He understood it. Veles, however, seemed clueless and Gael didn’t know how to remedy that. He made a note to talk to Chepi when he got home after scans. That is, if nothing was wrong that required a hospital stay. He hoped not. He needed to talk to Chepi. Chepi always knew what to do.
“Oh…that sort of sucks. I mean, I could probably die if I sneak bad foods too much or it could probably speed up the death of my ticker….but I mean…I can’t have any of the good stuff! Like french fries or pizza! My diet is boring and after scans and fasting….I want everything I’m not supposed to have.” Gael snuck it for that reason. Sometimes, he begged Chepi to order pizza for him or make him macaroni and cheese. All of the unhealthy foods tasted best, especially after fasting. He was sure his fathers knew, but he figured every once in awhile it couldn’t hurt. Besides he was getting old enough that he could become a vampire if he had to be saved. At least, that is what he told himself to make it seem like a better idea. “I could try to design something for your leg if you wanted…I like to paint and sketch. It’s something I could always do safely from my hospital bed or bed at home without straining myself. So…I guess I got pretty good at it.” Gael shrugged like the offer wasn’t a big deal, though now he was itching to help Veles in that way. Maybe he could use his art to show him he liked him. That was a thought. He’d ask Chepi. He had to. Maybe he’d even ask his dads.
