My project focused on GRIP. In order to make it obvious how to hold my form I used grooves to indicate where your thumb/fingers fit into. I Also wanted to focus on the grip of the middle/index finger to hold the form in order to allow movement of the thumb. This was because my initial research was based on garage remotes and the way users interact with a button usually sitting on top of the form. My initial clay iterations were too organic and essentially just a mould of my hand so in order to move away from this I decided to create a more subtle set of grooves that would fit every hand. I also decided to make my form symmetrical so that it would fit comfortably in either hand. For my poster I created a futuristic advertisement for a product called ‘Ergo-shut’ which is supposed to represent the first ergonomic grip on a garage remote. I am happy with my final form as I feel I managed to create a balanced and comfortable form.

Initial Storyboard

Practising with simple gif animation. I want to use a similar style for my project but with multiple scenes.

The emotions i used are fear/anxiety verses joy/peacefulness. I created a contrast between these two emotions in a number of ways to help tell the story. The first contrast is setting. At the beginning of the comic the scenery is peaceful and safe. Later in the comic Francis walks into a dark mysterious cave environment. These two environments emphasize the emotions through the use of colour. The first few scenes are brightly coloured with high contrast and the scenes in the cave are dark low contrast. As well as this, francis' facial expressions tell how he is feeling throughout the comic.

2 potential Website layouts: The layout on the left would use clicking as the interaction. When each frame is clicked on it will start the gif and center the frame in the middle of the screen. The layout on the right would use a simple infinite scrolling. As well as this the pages up top allow the user to jump to any page. The gifs would be activated through a 'mouseover' javascript code.

This project has really helped me develop as a designer and I feel like I have come a long way. It would have been great to make a functionally model by the end of this project but have still learned a lot from the process.
