#fallforcostume Day 16: Trial and Errorâ â So, funny story⌠(and yes, Iâm about to pick on Laura, but no, she doesnât mind; she often references this incident herself.)â â Years ago, while we were working on yet another Gensoumaden Saiyuuki costume set, I realized we needed a Bunny Doll (the creepy stuffed rabbit that a certain character carries around). I started looking for one online, but the rabbit has a distinctive shape, and I couldnât find one that looked right. âDonât buy one,â Laura said. âI have fabric. Iâll just sew a plushy."â â So I went back to what I was doing. A little while later, I heard giggling. Not happy giggling, though. I turned around to where Laura had been working at her sewing machine, only now she was doubled over it, laughing. She handed me a⌠thing. It didnât have a distinct shape. It was partly inside-out. "I tried to make a rabbit,â Laura choked out.â â The thing was not recognizable as a rabbit.â â Later that week, I was in the local Target when I saw that all the Easter candy was on clearance. I wandered through the discounted aisle, scanning for bags of Robin Eggs, when I saw a large, off-white stuffed rabbit with *exactly* the right shape to its limbs. Its head was wrong, but the body was perfect.â â So I bought the stuffed rabbit (at a deep discount!), brought it home, cut its face apart and re-sewed it to the right shape, and gave it a new mouth. Weâve been using that Bunny Doll for more than ten years.â â No one knows what happened to Lauraâs attempt. Some say if you listen carefully on a moonlit night, you can still hear it moving about the sewing roomâŚâ â #cosplay #costuming #saiyuki #gensoumadensaiyukiâ https://www.instagram.com/p/CGaVLzrjopc/?igshid=efdkqli1rn33
