recovery isnt being perfect. recovery isn’t being neurotypical. recovery is the process and way you learn to deal with things in a healthy way. its about coping. its about learning how to deal with thought patterns that arent conducive to you being your best you.

SUSIE: It’s known that ignorance is the main cause of cultural appropriation. Those who participate often do not view their behavior as racist, harmful, dehumanizing, annoying, insensitive, and problematic. (No one is safe from participating in harmful and problematic behavior. We’re all problematic. Every single one of us.)

Here’s the thing: one can dedicate time to unlearning harmful and racist behavior. It may take time, but it’s possible. When someone tells you ‘you are being racist’ it is then up to you to change your behavior. Ignorance no longer plays a part in your behavior because once someone has made it known publicly about your actions, you are aware of what you’re doing. Continuing to do so is no longer a type ignorance, but unabashed racism.

This racist cycle can only be broken by the proactive unlearning of racist behavior, understanding differences, and willingness to listen. Willingness to forgive yourself and apologize to those hurt (also realizing that not everyone will forgive you for your actions and yes it’s because of your insensitive actions. it’s a too bad so sad kinda world)

Hey folks! No one stays the same. As humans we grow and we change. Personally, who I was four years ago is NOT who I am today. In fact, current me would have probably made a call out post about past me.
