“Ah- I laugh all the time.” Angeal rolled his eyes but he was smiling still.

“Of course, Gen.” He said softly, helping to carefully position the man so not to jostle his shoulder. He pulled him against himself, wrapping strong arms around him; protective and warm. 

It hurt worse that he didn’t understand, that he couldn’t understand. Were they really so different?

“…It isn’t over. You aren’t dead. You can still be what you want to be, can’t you?” After all if he, Sephiroth, could change, if he could learn to be more human, then couldn’t Angeal? “I don’t understand why you’ve given up on everything.”

“I... Wish I was dead.” Angeal said, quieter than before. “Before this is all over, I will be. I plan to make sure of that.”

He felt sick to say it out loud, especially to Sephiroth. It would be so much easier to keep his plans hidden but... Something had broken within him and he couldn’t hold himself back.

“You could have at least spoken to me, Angeal! How would it have made you feel if I’d suddenly vanished without a single word after everything we’ve been through together? It hurt! Not even a word, no reply to my texts, no response to my emails, nothing! As if I simply meant nothing to you! As if I were something to be ignored! As if I was not a person but an object, a thing, something unworthy of even an apology! Have I not already been dehumanized enough in my lifetime? Have I not already faced enough death and loss? The worst thing you could have done was to lead me to believe that I actually meant something to you only to rip it all away without even a word! …I trusted you…you and Genesis. I trusted you to be different…”

He scoffed, but really he was scoffing at what he saw to be his own foolishness.

“I don’t hate you. I think maybe that’s what hurts the most.”

“You... You mean the world to me, Sephiroth. I couldn’t face you, couldn’t talk to you because I despise every inch of my being and I just...”

“So it’s wings that make you monsters? So it’s being a creation?” Sephiroth challenged, his own single, black wing stretching wide. “Do you realize how ridiculous you sound when you name off every single bit of my life experience to justify that you and Genesis are monsters?”

“Fine.” He snapped; it isn’t anger in his voice but frustration and anguish.

“You fight in a war of their making - You never had a choice. We did and we... We joined SOLDIER. But that’s only some of it.” He stretches his wings out, feathers falling with the movement. “We are monsters. Creations...”
