the evolution of contemporary 9j Afrobeats is so interesting to me, I wanna read and write more about it cuz the early 2000s Afrobeat influences rlly range from dancehall to Rnb to SWAG era.. and right now to uk/us drill to opium (carti, destroy lonely n ko) to hip-hop in general,, it’s been a fulll journey and transatlantic conversation since the beginning of its jazz and folk-music origins. At which It’s also important to note the geo-political class distinctions that come with the production of the sound and how the accessibility of more standardized forms of production also formulates the branches of the craft... it’s even more exciting and interesting in conversation with current artists tryna make a thread in search for their own sound, especially as the industry gets more competitive and formulaic. Also very interested in producers, instrumentalists and vocalists that ensemble an artist because that’s a major backbone!! I wanna put old tracks w new tracks in conversation, especially from underground artists cuz I’m very hyped by fellow co creators, I love how we’re re-inventing our Nigerianness on a global lvl, it definitely comes from a heritage deeper than meets the ear, there’s so much sampling and invention bigger than what ppl wanna blanket as alté 😫 too many yet to be named branches!!!
