well.  that’s probably not an inaccurate statement.  he’s running on very little sleep.  maybe zero ( 0 ) sleep, he has NO IDEA anymore.  & he can definitely feel himself succumbing to something, which can’t happen yet.  not when he’s got two exams left.  basically, if he sits long enough to sleep he’ll end up sick, he’s SURE OF IT, &, really, who has the time for that?  james kirk sure as hell doesn’t.  “thank you.  nicest thing anyone’s ever said to me.”  jesus, if he’s not careful, his mouth’s going to get him THROWN OUT of the ‘fleet.  “sir.”  he swallows, maybe he does need a nap.  “you haven’t seen captain pike around, have you?” 

“Well, shit. I’m honoured. Not a lotta people on this ship ever get you all to themselves.” Len couldn’t help but roll his eyes, taking it upon himself to stride out of the ready room ahead of the captain. Lorca would follow him, of that he was sure. Gabriel wasn’t one to cause a scene on his own bridge. 

“If it makes you feel any better, I promise I’ll make it quick and painless. I know how much you hate doin’ this.” ‘A damn waste of time’, he believed the captain’s words on the matter had been last time. “You just wanna thank your lucky stars this is only a quarterly thing.” 

Cornwell had been pushing to make them monthly last he’d heard from Medical HQ, but Leonard doubted that’d go through, and he didn’t strictly agree with her about the matter anyway. He’d been in the position of someone receiving monthly psyche evals – intelligence was worse about it than any other ‘Fleet branch – and he knew how gruelling they could be. 

The captain merely perked a brow in response before he followed McCoy out of his ready room and onto the brig. Commander Saru did a bit of a jerk reaction to get out of the captain’s chair before Lorca gave him a non-verbal hand gesture to remain where he was. The Kelpien was more than capable of running the simulation drills without him, in fact he wanted Saru to be just as capable as he was in a battle situation. There was no telling what they might get into.

“Quick and painless? --- See y’say that now but doctors always seem to be wrong on at least one of those,” Gabriel quipped once they’d stepped into the turbolift off the bridge. Hands held at the base of his spine, Lorca rolled his neck slightly to relieve some of the tension there before he looked back to his CMO.
