So I just watched Bill and Ted Face the Music last night and I loved it but it got me thinking about the future of the B&T universe. So we are told at the beginning of the first film that Wyld Stallyns unite the world with their music in Rufus’ future but that is a different future than Face the Music.
My theory is that Rufus changed the future to save the universe, bear with me. So originally you would have a Bill and Ted timeline with no time travel. Bill and Ted would have gone to the Circle K and prodbably gained a bunch of information from random passerby’s, enough to pass history. They would have then just worked on being better musicians without any future knowledge that their music would be amazing. With no time travel involvement they would not have met the princesses and would have remained as a duo, honing their craft and eventually becoming the wyld stallyns of Rufus’ future, brown trench coats and all (they probably made a song similar to most oldest bill and Ted). This would be a pretty awesome future till the universe starts to collapse, with no time travel Bill and Ted would have to try and save the universe purely by themselves, causing the destruction of all of space time as the whole world would be needed. Rufus knowing that this future would come to pass, convinced the 3 most important people in the world (that is the actual name of the characters in the first film) that Bill and Ted need help with their project. Setting forth the events of the first film and creating a four member WS and eventually causing the events of the second film. Rufus knew that he had to make WS a big band as he had altered the time line which is why he disguised himself as the organiser of the Battle of the Band’s (he either already had plans this before Bogus Journey or he was stuck in the past for years so he could fill that role). At the end of BJ, we have a very different Bill and Ted than we do in the original timeline. Bill and Ted have travelled through time, they have travelled the afterlife, gone through intensive guitar training, have had daughters and been told they will write the best song ever. While they have kept there happy demeanour, knowledge of those events would change how they view life and change how they approach the creative process. Rufus knew all this, knowing that this version of Bill and Ted with all that experience would be the best parents to raise the children that would unite the world in music. As they would have told Billie and Thea about what they have been through, the importance of music for the future and credo of “Be excellent to one another”. Creating our beautiful saviours in Billie and Thea aka Yung Stallyns!
