I'm a laid back but eager student (though possibly too laid back), a book addict, a movie and music lover, a television auditor, and an incurable fangirl. I tend to obsess over everything and love everything. I'll go walking in the rain, dancing in the snow, and let my imagination take me where it may lead. I think the world of the art of procrastination. I like smiles and laughter, cute children, adorable animals, and awesome women (and men).

Sorry for the lateness @al3ivingthings!!! But I did say you prompted this angsty thought from me, and so... I hope it's ok! And works...?
It was the first time really delving into Leida's head here, so... yeah.
(Kleya sort of popped in as I was figuring out how to close and decided to haunt the narrative a bit, because I didn't want to end with Leida having any doubts about her choices anymore (by giving her room and space to think things over and to remind her that that is fine). And Kleya - master of "lock in and win it so we can make our own choices" - felt right in ways that family would not have.)
TIL a family in Georgia claimed to have passed down a song in an unknown language from the time of their enslavement; scientists identified the song as a genuine West African funeral song in the Mende language that had survived multiple transmissions from mother to daughter over multiple centuries (x)
In 1997 Amelia’s daughter, Mary Moran, and other members of the Moran family were invited to Sierra Leone, West Africa, where they were welcomed in Freetown by Sierra Leone’s President and then flown by helicopter to the country’s interior. There, in the small village of Senehun Ngola, Mary and Bendu Jabati met and sang this song together for the first time. Years earlier, Bendu’s grandmother had told her that this song, which had been passed down in her village from mother to daughter for centuries, would one day reunite her to long-lost relatives.
In addition to finding out where in Africa her ancestors were abducted into slavery, Mary Moran discovered the meaning of the Mende song: a processional hymn for the final farewell to the spirit, it was sung in Senehun Ngola by women as they prepared the body of a loved one for burial.
(The OP's link leads to a site with a recording of the song sung by both Mary Moran and her mother, Amelia)
Because the original link was broken, I tracked down a news story about how the song is continuing to help Mary Moran's relatives find their African communities:
Also, there's an apparently sanctioned link to the full documentary about tracing the song.
I was really fascinated to learn that the song was originally recorded by none other than Lorenzo Dow Turner, the founder of Gullah studies. Gullah was dismissed (by white people) as a nonsense language until a Black linguist trained on Old and Middle English came along in the early 20th century, and I love him.

Summary: A wedding in Cinque Terre brings a recently-divorced corporate executive and celebrated art dealer together.
Shenanigans ensue, including bridezillas, fights over floral arrangements, a night of drunk karaoke, and copious amounts of prosecco. What could possibly go wrong?
Or, an unhinged Mon Mothma/Luthen Rael romance.
AO3 link here & excerpt under the break
The sun was blindingly golden, the sea flashing below the cliffs, and Mon was already halfway down the villa’s stone steps when Vel’s voice carried after her, “Take Luthen with you!”
Mon paused, one gloved hand on the door of the sleek, cherry-red Alfa Romeo Spider she’d rented for the week. The linen of her sage green sundress clung in the warm breeze, white silk headscarf tucked neatly around her hair, oversized sunglasses hiding the arch of her brow.
“I beg your pardon?” she called up.
“Go on!” Vel was grinning from the terrace, mischievous as ever. “He looks like he needs some sun.”
Before Mon could argue, Luthen was already descending the steps, looking more resigned than enthusiastic. He carried the air of a man who had been tricked into something but was determined not to give his trickster the satisfaction.
“Apparently I’m coming with you,” he muttered as he slid into the passenger seat, adjusting his chambray jacket as though it was armor that might protect him. Mon fixed him with a look of mild annoyance, but then slid into the driver’s seat with a smirk.
Mon gave Vel a saccharine smile through the windshield before turning the key. The engine purred to life, low and sensual. She gripped the stick shift in her driving glove and felt his curious gaze land there.
Kleya padded out to stand next to Vel, frowning with concern. “Did you tell him she races Formula 1 cars for fun?”
Vel shook her head, pouting, “What, and spoil the surprise?”
###
“What exactly are we—” Luthen began.
The car shot forward, tires squealing against cobblestone. He grabbed the door handle instinctively. His jaw clenched as Mon maneuvered onto the cliff road with expert precision, hair scarf fluttering in the wind.
“—doing,” he finished, voice rougher now.
Mon only smiled faintly, eyes on the horizon. “A drive. Isn’t that what you were told?”
The road bent and he held his breath as she downshifted smoothly. The engine growled as they whipped around the blind curve.
“You drive stick,” he managed, knuckles pale as he braced against the dash.
“I race stick.” She flicked a glance at him, lips curving. “My ex-husband liked expensive cars. I got rid of the husband, kept the cars.”
Luthen exhaled a sharp laugh despite himself. “You could have mentioned this before I got in.”
“Oh, where’s the fun in that?”
The Alfa roared again as she punched into a higher gear to overtake a lumbering scooter, scarf and sunglasses flashing like some goddess of speed. Luthen’s heart was pounding, though he wasn’t sure if it was fear or the sheer fact of sitting inches from her—her bare knee flexing as she worked the clutch, the effortless grace with which she commanded the machine.
“You’re going to kill us,” he said, though it came out more reverent than he intended.
“Not today,” Mon replied breezily, hair blowing against her cheeks.
There was another hair-raising curve, and another downshift. His shoulder brushed hers as the car leaned into the turn. Her subtle jasmine perfume mingled with the sea air as they zipped down the road. She looked utterly in control, flushed with adrenaline, while he was caught between terror and a pulse of desire so strong he wanted to curse Vel for setting him up.
Mon slid them into a straightaway, finally easing her foot off the gas. She tipped her head toward him, just enough to let him see the sly smile curving her mouth.
“Still alive?”
He swallowed. “Barely.”
She laughed then, throaty and unguarded, and for a moment the tension between them crackled louder than the engine.
Mon downshifted and guided the Alfa off the cliff road onto a narrow gravel turnout overlooking the sea. The engine coughed once before settling into a low, satisfied hum as she cut the ignition. Silence rushed in, broken only by the cicadas in the brush and the hiss of waves hundreds of feet below. The sun had begun its slow descent, staining the water a molten copper.
Luthen was still braced against the dash, as though letting go would be admitting something.
“You can breathe now,” Mon teased, tugging off her driving gloves one finger at a time.
He gave her a long, level look before huffing out a laugh. “You enjoy terrifying people.”
She peeled her sunglasses down her nose and regarded him over the rim, expression full of dry amusement. “I'm a lawyer, it's what I'm good at.”
That shut him up. He glanced back out toward the glittering water, but his pulse hadn’t quite calmed, and not from the ride alone.
Mon slipped out of the car, linen dress brushing her legs, silk scarf falling loose against her shoulders. The breeze lifted it as she walked to the edge of the overlook, hands resting on the stone barrier, her profile lit gold by the dipping sun. Luthen followed reluctantly, dragging in a steadying breath as he joined her.
“You drive like a maniac,” he said.
“I drive like someone who knows exactly what she’s doing.” She tilted her chin toward the horizon, a faint smile playing at her lips. “Can you say the same?”
He didn’t answer, but the jab landed. He found himself watching her instead—how the wind tugged at her hair, how the sunlight caught the curve of her mouth.
Mon turned her head slightly, catching his stare. For a long beat, neither of them spoke.
Her eyes flickered down, just once, toward his mouth. Then she looked away, as if that brief lapse hadn’t happened at all.
“You’re not so bad a passenger. I usually drive alone.” she murmured, almost to herself.
He smirked faintly, trying to claw back some ground. “I’ve survived worse.”
“Mm,” she hummed. “I doubt it.”
The silence stretched again, a bit awkward but laden with something that made him want to get closer, to ask the question their banter kept circling. Before he could follow through, she was already tugging her scarf tighter, composure snapping back into place.
“Come,” she said briskly, walking back toward the car. “If we don’t return soon, Vel will accuse me of killing you and dumping your body off a cliff somewhere.”
Luthen lingered half a second longer at the overlook, steadying himself, before following. As he slid back into the passenger seat, one thought refused to let him go. He hadn’t been terrified of her driving. Not really. He’d been terrified of what he might do if she kept looking at him like that.
In case people thought she was the only female on this show... This show was RICH with female characters. It didn't always treat them right/correctly, but when it DID. IT WAS BEAUTIFUL TO SEE!

“Thank you all for, once again, entrusting me with this higher office of civil service. Today is a new beginning for all of us. We share a unique destiny, but our future is ours to shape and our past cannot be forgotten. A new day requires new thinking, and while I had intended on using this occasion as an opportunity to announce the formation of a special prosecutor’s office charged with investigating acts of collaboration with the enemy; I have decided instead that a different gesture is called for on this, the first day of my next term as your president. We all feel the need for justice, and we all feel the need for vengeance, and telling the difference between the two can be difficult at times. We are all victims of the Cylons, and none of us can be impartial. I certainly can’t. So today I am forming a commission on truth and reconciliation to hear our stories and record them for posterity. There will be no prosecutions. I am issuing a general pardon for every human being in this fleet. This will not be a popular move today, but I truly believe that is the only way for us to move forward in strength in the spirit of healing and reconciliation. I thank you for your continued patience and courage.”

One day.... I'll finish that essay I've been meaning to write on these female sci-fi leaders that have me in a continuous chokehold... but because I use a tag that used to almost exclusively be BSG's also for Star Wars/Andor (due to there being... multiple worlds), I decided to go down memory lane for the heck of it, and now... here we are.
#Disney made this???#a commentary on the abuse of power by fascist and imperialistic regimes and the small acts of rebellion that topple them?#the darkness of war on both sides and the clawing filthy burning thing that is hope??#excuse me I need a moment#andor#my post
What is the *oldest* (based on original publication date, not the translated version you've read, if applicable) book that you have read in full? What year range was it published?
i'm always so excited to meet star wars fans whose favourite characters are like, either minor characters or characters who just don't get the same hype as say, the main three or five in all the movies or tv shows.
like cool, i'm glad you like obi-wan, so cool that you like luthen. oh of course you like ahsoka.
anyway, which of you fuckers are crying, screaming and throwing up about depa bilaba? or brasso? hell, anyone have big feelings about vail tormin? any breha organa fans in the house tonight?
tell me in the tags who your favourite star wars character is but ONLY if they're not considered a main character
Mon runs the family farm with its long tradition and withering crops, and she’s exhausted because her husband is more interested in his charming new alpaca herd than in said crops.
Mon’s cousin helps, but while Vel has strong arms, she keeps getting distracted by the brooding county vet. The vet keeps turning up because Mon’s husband likes his new alpaca herd, but the alpaca herd doesn’t like what Perrin feeds them. They hate fruit, thank you. And thank God Mon’s daughter is away at boarding school, even though she keeps sending strange letters about farm life in the last century and the dangers of electricity.
On the neighboring farm, manager Krennic rules with an iron hand and no respect for the borders of Mon’s land. There’s an important spring he’s keen to lay his hands on, you see. It’s all quite enough already, even without the recent rabbit plague. Mon suspects Krennic has something to do with the plague, but she can’t pin it on him.
The only time Mon’s exhaustion somewhat softens is when she’s driven to the general store in the next town. The shop has everything from machine oil to kitchen pottery, and the shop owner’s assistant has interesting ideas when Mon mentions the rabbit plague. Something something about how the rabbits would find their way to Krennic land without him being the wiser, even though Mon hasn’t even mentioned Krennic’s name. The assistant also looks perpetually fresh, and she keeps distracting Mon in her tight jeans and plaid shirt – even though that’s what they all wear (except for Perrin and his ridiculous patterns).
She oils Mon’s rifle while Mon looks for a new hat because Perrin’s alpacas ate her last one. He really needs to get a grip on their diet. The assistant is called Kleya, and she compliments Mon on the new hat and maybe drops her eyes briefly to where Mon has left one button too many open on her shirt, because it’s never not too hot these days. And maybe she mentions paying a visit to the rabbits in the evening, and maybe Mon will show her not only the rabbits but the place where it’s slightly cooler then and where one can see how the sun sinks down on the everlasting horizon and where Mon likes to forget about the crops and the alpacas and her family.
And maybe the assistant will push Mon’s new hat out of the way when she visits and kiss her on the lips. Maybe Kleya will open some more buttons on Mon’s shirt as they sink to the ground, and maybe Mon remembers then why she loves it here, where the crops may be withering but are still high enough to hide those who like to get naked on a beautiful summer night with a beautiful woman. And maybe Mon will pat Vel slightly on the shoulder when the brooding vet shows up the next time and even wink at her, and Vel will be surprised at why her cousin is in such a good mood. Maybe, Vel thinks, because the rabbits are gone.
@except4bunnies This is brilliant, and now… I feel the urge to enable you further?
(Of note, contextually, this is a scene where she's trying to get back into the swing at things - after pretending at normalcy for a good long while - and still walking with a cane after a traumatic brain injury. *show is FILLED with plotholes and need to suspend disbelief, but it was FUN*)
Bonus one:
And then there's whatever situationship she has going on with Christina Hendricks' character too... LOL

Thank you to @chandrilamistress for the tag! I realize it's been a while since I've last been on Tumblr and recently got some new mutuals!
Last song: You Want it Darker by Leonard Cohen (this ENTIRE album wanting to live rent free in my head) and Which Witch by Florence + The Machine (thanks to that one Mon edit... >>"), and Zombie by The Cranberries - because always; ever since Laura Roslin and BSG and now with Mon and Andor... it still hits SO HARD. (For pieces I"m playing/re-learning how to play, It's Chopin's Valse in B-minor and The Blue Danube - the latter is my relaxation song, and the former is my angst piece. It took me TWO YEARS the first time around to get it to a place where my piano teacher had been satisfied, and I've gotten so messy, so... I'm re-learning it. For fun, but also to angst out.)
Last Book: There's... four at the moment? For fun: The Mask of Fear by Alexander Freed (doing a slow read through now after skipping around initially, but it's going REALLY slow, because it gives ME anxiety - just got through the Dark Place chapter).
For fun-but-more-work-related: How We Age by Dr. Marc Agronin
My Kindle book atm for on the go reasons: A Life Diverted (a Pride and Prejudice vagary) by Shana Granderson (honestly, my Kindle Unlimited is just a collection of guilty pleasure P&P variations)
Last Movie: Sony's Kpop Demon Hunters on Netflix - it has no right to go as hard as it does, but here we are... on repeat (also recently rewatched Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron because... same as above - *waves at Bryan Adams*)
Last tv show: I've been re-watching Andor with a friend; and trying to re-watch BSG with ANOTHER friend (except I gave up after she left me in the dust by marathoning it LOL). Otherwise, I've also recently finished Wednesday season 2.
Favorite color: Green! I am particularly fond of forest green, bamboo green (iykyk), and pastel green.
Spicy, sweet, or savory: Definitely a sweet tooth.
Current obsession: Andor - Mon Mothma - Genevieve O'Reilly and any combination of the above... LOL
Last search: Today? On a long ride stuck in traffic, I was looking up some Genevieve's old interviews (just because), but otherwise, prior search before that was clarifying the brand name of antibiotic Cefuroxime. LOL My search history is otherwise not... very appetizing for most people. >>" (For fun, feel free to look up Beer potomania though!)
Looking forward to: Hamilton! In person! It was a gift to myself as well as my sister and cousin for their birthdays. LOL
And uh..., tagging (but feel free to skip or just inform me if you've already done it!) uhh... @al3ivingthings, @bubblesxo, @wafflesandtime, @crushed-snail, and @sjwashere
