The short version is we met because of Firefly. :)

The longer version: Technically we first met online. I co-ran the SoCal Browncoats fan group (If you haven’t watched Firefly/Serenity yet. Why?) and we had shindigs every month somewhere in the region. Beth had emailed me about helping to do one in Riverside where she lived. We were both with other people at the time so it was all business. We planned the shindig (pizza and bowling) and met there in person for the first time (I thought she was cute).

After that we met again (still with other people) at the Can’t Stop the Serenity screening in Orange County (she helped hand out programs) and then at a Firefly/Serenity Creation Con in 2008. 

By early 2009 we were both single. But there was little interaction between us for many months except following each other on at least Twitter. (I remember she did a funny Dr. Horrible on Facebook graphic that I retweeted.)

Then in August she replied to a tweet of mine while I was in Vegas. Since I was in Vegas for the weekend it involved drinking so I invited her out for drinks when I got back. I managed to turn it into a dinner date since there weren’t really any places for a drink near where she lived (aw shucks!).

So on September 2nd, 2009 we had our first date. It lasted for many hours and 3 different restaurants for dinner, dessert and finally those drinks. Even though the drinks ended up being iced tea or something. We apparently really liked each other and didn’t want the night to end. :)

We got married at the courthouse in late 2011 (can you believe no one remembered a camera!) and had a ceremony with our family and friends in 2012. I still contend it was just so she could look gorgeous in the dress she found. :p

but yeah you’re just sitting there on the floor looking up at them all watching the show and he’s playing his guitar and you’re just enjoying yourself and this happens or he does this shit

Seriously, people need to grow up, your pants are fine and most of us know it.

You do not start being a completely different person just because you’re changing the gender your body was born with to the one your mind and heart were born with.

You are the exact same person.

First, thank you. That means a lot. I try to keep in mind my base perspective on life, and draw on that to influence the realness of my encounters with fellow human beings. I am not afraid of losing that side of who I am. It is this same side of myself I struggle to keep as my main identity, yet after every meeting with the inspiring and incredibly supportive individuals such as yourself, my “job” melds with my passion, which in essence is the very basic consideration of humanity, combined with what we leave behind for our next generation. It all becomes so simple, and as cheesy or cliche as the line might be, It really does serve me to serve you. I get as just as much out of being something to somebody as somebody gets from someone else being kind to them. someonethingsomeobodysomethingosmoeonbody.I challenge you to wake up one day, and no matter what, no matter who you interact with, serve them out of the goodness of your heart, which is real in even the worst of us. Make that effort to disarm others and be as open and honest with them as you are both capable of being. See how you feel at the end of the day, notice how you sleep. Be aware of how life changes, sometimes subtly. Things seem to start to happen, things you could only have ever dreamt of. This way of life becomes your life, even with our meager shortcomings and petty disappointments. This way of life becomes not only a habit, but a chance to re-meet yourself, and in my current belief, change the entire planet one human being at a time. You might inspire the next Rosa Parks, or the next Martin Luther King.You also may say I’m a dreamer, but Im not the only one.
