I found out about him like a month ago bc of the movie and I would say nothing prepared me for the emotional wreckage that was carrie and lowell

Honestly, no one on this earth, in this realm, was prepared for Carrie and Lowell.

When Suf was touring that album, I went to go see him play. I had my Flask Purse™️ on the empty chair next to me so that I could use the spout to pour myself drinks liquid support without it being super obvious.

A group of people show up and a guy asks me if the chair with my purse is seat so-and-so, I say it is and start moving my purse so he and his friends can sit and he tells me don’t worry about it and that they had tickets for the rest of seats in the row but they didn’t need that one so that I could leave my stuff there. He was really nice about it and he and his party all sat down and there were about three seats separating me from them.

When Sufjan starts playing, I notice the guy politely excuse himself from where he was sitting in between his two friends and move closer to me up the row so that there’s an empty chair on either side of him. Then he just starts crying. I mean, I’m crying too, basically everyone in the audience is crying, but like this sweet grown man is sobbing. When the Rough Part is over and all of us have stopped crying, he goes back to sit with his friends and I realize he literally bought at least 4 tickets for himself so that he could cry. He Really Did That And I Admire Him.

Finding out about Sufjan has been a weird and special journey. His music has made me reevaluate a lot of stuff about my life, including my outlook towards it and my relationship with religion.
