i think the phrase "felt 'good', huh? What really is 'good'?" is really fucking potent in terms of representation of catholicism's denial of self-pleasure, and how that ties into fear of a christian god. the persistent themes in the game to suffer and deny yourself pleasure, closure, or peace for the sake of his god is something mime fits Very well into. i feel like its very easy to disregard mime in a funny way as "the sin of masturbation is going to make john touch himself.... THE TOUCHER IS APPROACHING!!!" but i earnestly do think that mime is a fun way to explore john/sinner/etc's relationship to his own body, and how that contrasts with his god's path for him. the denial of bodily autonomy for the sake of (sexual, self-servicing) pleasure is a simple but hard-hitting means of control. that the body is not even his own, that to acknowledge ones body with ones own hands is a luxury incompatible with the total control christianity intends to put its victims under. but maybe im just a cult victim/christian abuse victim who sees a lot of my own victimhood in him, or maybe he reminds me of other cult victims ive known and lost. and maybe i also like drawing older men getting unclothed but im not gonna get into that right now .
