Today’s thoughts #2 - Boys and girls

I think that there are too many people on this planet to be sorted into two groups. Tall or short, beautiful or ugly, clever or stupid, boys or girls... People come in all range of heights, there are people with beautiful eyes but pimply face, there are people who aren’t able to do a math exercise but doing well in a basketball team as a captain. There are boys who don’t like beer or football or they pay more attention to their hair, and there are girls who don’t like shopping and/or they go to the toilet alone.

I think boys and girls are not so different at all. And I think that the societies making them so different. Society tells the little children what is a correct thing and what is a bad manner for a boy or a girl. Girls should play nicely but when boys beating each other on the football field, they are just boys... Boys should be strong and it’s not okay for them to cry. But it’s okay if a girl is crying, because she is a girl. Let’s imagine a situation “15 years later”: a girl is crying on her bed while his boyfriend shouting at him. Why? Maybe because there was something wrong two months before, but the girl had to play nicely and didn’t have a clue about how to stand out for herself. And the boy realized a problem but it’s not okay for a boy to cry aka express himself in these “girly” matters. So he started to shout. Because it was okay to shout at others and beat the others on the football field. And then the girl started to cry. Because that’s what girls do.

Other: as for myself, I am that type of girl (maybe I should say tomboy) who doesn’t like if someone opens the door for her but thanks the one who does, because it is a kindness from him. But doesn’t like it.

And there are a few things which just blew my head up. My favourite example: I was 11-years-old and I got a new bike. With a boy’s crossbar. When I first rode it to school one of my teachers said “Wow, what a nice bike! Is this your brother’s?” Yes, you can say I am overreacting. Maybe I am doing so. But when I said the bike is mine there was a very strange look on the teacher’s face “But that’s a boy bike” Please tell me... why on earth.... should a girl... HAVE TO ride a girl bike? Oh, and it was blue, maybe it was an other fault of mine...

Why on earth should be boys ashamed if they wanna dance instead of doing karate? And vica versa. Why they get the strange looks? They are HUMANS, they are INDIVIDUALS. Let a boy dance because he has good sense of rythm, and let a girl do karate because she has a good eye for the opponents. And of course: vica versa. Let them do it. But not because he/she is a boy/girl. I think that doing nothing with these things.
