I mean, the movement matching. The precision on the beats. The matching of style and change to the music.

I am in complete awe.

And rewatching it now I had another shock:

“Oh, and none of these clips was sped up or slowed down.”

Casually. Like that’s not one of the most impressive parts of this.

Part of it comes from the fact that his style is more long-sword/broad sword/two-handed/Excalibur kind of fighting style while the newer star wars movies (including the prequels) use a much faster one-handed style.

But I also like to think that it was very intentional that Luke, who was given a very rushed Jedi education, fights with a much more bare bones style than the earlier Jedi, who were using their lightsabers since they were knee high to a grasshopper.

Also, it’s such an interesting contrast that Luke—sweet, kind-hearted, absolutely beautiful Luke—is an absolute fucking terror with that lightsaber. And I mean, he’s fucking scary. Homeboy is just hacking and slashing like a fucking horror movie and it’s just so….AWESOME.

I mean, he really lays into people on Jabba’s party barge and speaking as a former fencer, I can tell you that his footwork and strikes are geared towards strength and power. Look how he plants those fuckers and just wallops Jabba’s guards!!! Look at how he just hammers away at Vader at the end of ROTJ!!

Is it because his first saber fight was against a 7 foot tall, Jedi-cyborg man with superhuman strength? Is that why he developed a style that could not only withstand the power of blows from an opponent like that but also return them in kind? I don’t know. But what I do know is that his style definitely delivers in the power category.

I mean look at how he stands his ground and just kicks Vader down those stairs!! The kid just kicked a 7 foot tall, Jedi cyborg with super human strength down the stairs like A BOSSSS!! I mean sure Vader didn’t have the best position on that landing/stairs but he’s a GIGANTIC FUCKING MONSTER and my tiny, adorable Jedi child just fucking kicked his ass down the stairs!!! OMG i love it so much!!

Anyway, I could talk about Luke Skywalker’s fighting style all down but i gotta go work now.

But wait before I go—can we talk about how terrifying he is on Jabba’s barge? I mean remember that guy who is on the gun turret and Luke just comes charging outta nowhere at him and just—-BAM!—takes him out? OMG I bet the folks at Mos Eisley were telling horror stories about that massacre for years afterward!!

Also, can we acknowledge how hard Luke is straining when Vader and he lock sabers in ROTJ? OMG he’s so perfect and can you imagine how strong Vader was? Height gives you a definite advantage in sword fights because you can bear down on your opponent in a way shorter fighters cannot and Vader is already so strong and tall and poor Luke is just gritting his teeth and pushing back with all his heart.

OMG I just love him so much!!! But I really gotta go this time—-work awaits.
