The Screeners wandered down the street, slow and methodic as if they were zombies. I mean, they practically were. Too much time living in an augmented reality- too much time hooked up to the neurogrid via I.V. drip. Too much time wearing the face masks had taken its toll on them. Now, they were little more than empty husks of the human beings they had once been. Useless to society. Useless in the work place.

But New Corp. had a purpose for them still, and I shivered at the thought. They wouldn’t hurt me. I knew that. But New Corp. could see my face through the cameras on the masks. And if they could see my face then they could track my location. And if my file came up…
