thinking, thinking, thinking ( ... ) do you ever think about the fact that ahri's real name is actually unknown to most ? it is a name spoken by nature, by fanged maws and silk - soft petals, by the secret and viscerous and ancient language of the untamed wilds. it is a name that can't be transcribed nor transferred to the tongues of men, for its sounds cannot be replicated by the human vocal apparatus. it's a name beautifully reminiscent of leaves dancing in the rain, of brazenly pigmented petals unfurling for the first time and labyrinthine roots digging into the earth below, of predators' sharp fangs and even sharper claws lacerating flesh and breaking bones, of prismatic feathers being ruffled by the winds and furs growing soft and thick during wintertide, of butterflies and bumblebees and ladybugs journeying from one flower to the other ... in it, is the faint echo of wisps and specters, of lovers nurturing a love that no longer exists, of life and death entwined in an eternal embrace.

those connected to nature will know of her name. in the past, however, not even they dared to speak it: druids and earthen creatures would, instead, resort to weaving new epithets to describe and address her directly. in their midst, she is known as the lover of flowers, the blooming one, the jewel of the wilds ( ... ) but her true name remains unspoken, too sacred to be tarnished by the mortal tongues of those who were not blessed by the divinity of the all - mother.

the name "ahri" was eventually given her by a poet. love - sick and bewitched by the elusive nymph of the wilds, he one day returned to the familiar realm of humans with a heart barbed in thorns and flowers tangled in his hair ; instantaneously, whilst green leaves still clang to the old fabrics of his garments and his breath came out in tremulous exhales, he set to write the most beautiful poem about the daughter of nature. in its dulcet rhymes, amongst idyllic metaphors that seemed to bleed across the paper, he claimed that the wilds had at least revealed her name to him. in the symphony of lithe branches waltzing together, of wild - flowers laughing and beasts growling, when the raucous echo of lingering specters became the loudest, and the earth quivered beneath his feet, he heard it⸻ a name, whispered by nature itself: ahri.

the humans from all the nearby settlements believed his tale, enamored of the passion that he had poured in each verse that he wrote and recited. if such a man, known to be frivolous and weak - hearted, had spilled his sentiments 'pon the paper with such an all - devouring fervor, then his story must have been veritable. and thus, women and men and children all eagerly began to adopt the name ahri when referring to the bride of the wilds ; to them, assigning a name to the vixen meant giving shape and form to a creature that had been beautiful and tremendous at the same time. it meant stealing her away from the myth embroidered around her existence, making her much more real than she had ever been.

ahri, on the other hand, was not too fond of her name at first. to the untrained ears of the wild maiden, it felt too short and simple, much too different from the name that the all - mother had chosen for her little dream. she knows not when she began to like its sound, or relish the ephemeral simplicity of it ( ... ) eventually, before she could consciously realize it, the poet had left her with an inheritance that she would continue to treasure for centuries to come. this may not be her real name, that ethereal and beautiful ode sung by the all - mother and by all her dearly beloved creatures on the day she was born, but in its dulcet candor is the eternal love of a man who fell for the beast and then decided to immortalize her in both history and myth, so that 'ahri' could be descanted and venerated by countless other hearts throughout the centuries.

if you enter the lavender woods and give yourself wholly to the woodland, opening not only your ears but also your heart to the melodious symphony of the wilds, you may hear her true name sung by the nature all around you. of course, you may be unable to recognize it but it will be there⸻ in the midst of love - birds chirping and wolves howling, within the intimacy of a bleeding heart, beneath the dancing branches and amongst the endless roots ( ... ) in that space where the emptiness of divine creation is filled by a wild, little dream.

“ the flowers in my garden bloom— ” it sounds a like a plea that he sends after the departing maiden. don't go. his own tone surprises him. but sarastro isn't as ashamed as he ought to be. there is a fascination with the forest dweller that he can not shake. surely she'll prefer the blooming gardens that surround his home to the dead forest that surrounds them. “ perhaps you'd like to see them. ”
