The whole scene was hard to watch, but especially the end had me in tears. I knew Magnus’ breakdown would come sooner rather than later. Because you can’t pretend to be okay forever if you’re not.  I’m not mad that the proposal didn’t happen, cause even if Alec would have been able to do it, I’m not sure Magnus would said Yes in the situation he finds himself in. Losing his magic isn’t just losing the power to do magical things, it’s losing an essential part of himself. A part of his soul. Something that’s unimaginable to anyone who isn’t a magical being that had to suffer this loss. I always tried to compare it to a human who lost his legs, but even this seems not even begin to cover it. The only thing I can think of that might come close is the loss of a parabatai for a shadowhunter. Like Iris said in this episode: “They took my magic what made me who I am. They stole my very soul. The thought of living the next fifty odd years without magic? I’d take death by actual fire over that heavenly stuff any day.”
