Hello. This is my blog to ramble about all my interests and share my doodles for an internet audience.
Current media interests very obsessed with: Deltarune, Hollow Knight + Silksong
I am a big yapper and if I had more energy and less pain id be the type to make 3 hour video essays. You can leave if the walls of text bother you. You will see a lot of autistic analysing of characters, relationships and stories.
I have been on and off on tumblr since I was 15. as the brain finally hit the 25 year old maturation threshold in 2023 I left for two years and had to question and rebuild a bunch of beliefs implanted across a decade by this site from scratch. For all the time I spent stewing in it, and the realisation of how disconnected it is from any meaningful real life accomplishments, I am absolutely fascinated by the ideological system of control this site created as an insular entity and then crossed over with every fandom, and how it spread outward into tiktok, twitter, discord, bluesky etc. I have basically no flattering words for any of it, and I don’t mince them. This has been met with dislike prior and will probably continue to do so. If it makes you upset leave any time. If you want to look at the art by itself, filter out #politisperging and #fanpol. This is one of my non fiction interests and you will see posts about it, but they’re all tagged. I don’t take offence to anyone not wanting to read them.
I am not here every day or answer every ask, and it’s likely I will end up leaving and returning again. If you ever want to keep in touch feel free to send a msg for discord chat and whatnot.
Finally, before you send me a generic template message about how I’m a fascist terf meanie read the sign:

My conspiracy theory is that Toby rushed himself to get Chapter 5 out, and the writing suffered. Why was the festival devoid of minigames, with a black screen for the hyped-up ferris wheel? Why was Suselle so clunky and front-loaded? Why did Ralsei hate Flowery on sight? Because Toby promised to release this year, and he REALLY wanted his yuri chapter to launch on Yuri Day in Japan, so he rushed the script to the artists. And if that's the playbook now, then I fear for the rest of the game.
curious on what your thoughts on ralsei's handling in ch5,I personally felt like his character was reset, I'm not expecting him to get over his issues that quickly, but I don't get why he became so pessimistic after they literally defeated a Titan or why he thinks sticking to the rules will be for the better when he literally said that following the prophecy is bad.
His beef with flowery also didn't feel necessary imo, ralsei isn't Noelle, the reason he isn't mean 24/7 to everyone isn't due to learned helplessness but because he's naive and an overall polite guy,he was quite sassy to Susie(a literal legendary hero ) and lancer in ch1 and while he doesn't like opposing Kris he's not scared to talk back to people when he had enough.
His hostility towards flowery for being annoying and evil is also weird cus he's dealt with worse people and was more patient,as for the jealousy part of it,I feel like it went nowhere, ralsei doesn't reflect on his jealousy nor is he actually called out for it, it's treated as a joke, ralsei also does a complete 180 in the optional dialogue between them where he just opens up to this evil Guy that he hates, goes back to being a piece shit to him and then is particularly effected by his death, it's inconsistent.
Idk maybe I'm missing something but he also felt really weird in this chapter :/
If intentionally written then the above picture is what I believe to be happening. Because the thing that stands out to me about the bizarre ooc behavior is that it is all in line with like a tropey, simplistic, and "correct" iteration of deltarune. In fact in that regard i find it interesting that ralsei only uses his fire spell once in the entire chapter and its distinctly not to raze everything due to jealousy (as was prophesised/said by gerson). In fact ral seems to oscillate between being like, himself and then not-himself-- visually notice how he gets and loses the hat a couple times--The emphasis on the hat seems almost symbolic of this forceful return to "the script". as you say here:
>ralsei also does a complete 180 in the optional dialogue between them where he just opens up to this evil Guy that he hates, goes back to being a piece shit to him and then is particularly effected by his death, it's inconsistent.
I think this is almost like he's "fighting the brainwashing" and, as the chapter progresses, he fails, or something. He's the one to point out that things are off and Susie's acting out of character after all, and later he just follows along with whatever is happening.
It feels to me like they've somehow been made to regress (he and susie) because their attitude about defying the prophecy got a bit toooooo serious and whoever is ensuring the prophecy happens (or whatever) was not very pleased about the ending events of chapter 4. If you play both 4 and 5 back to back the jarring change of tone is even more evident.
His fixation with sticking to the rules is very chapter 1-esque and may be the result of this regression to forcefully make ralsei and susie "behave".
its either that or its the fault of the ghostwriters cause yeah ralsei was barely himself in this chapter. In which case kill them all etc
Did ch5 feel like it was ghostwritten by someone besides toby to you? The excessive @#$&ing, characters being mean for no reason. Weirdly forced Suselle, Susie making Catti cry, Ral being grumpy and unreasonable... It just feels so off???? My tinfoil hat theory is that the same ghostwriters did Mike room/battat dialogue, as it has the same flair of idk... uncalled antagonism?
that is my pet theory in case the writing is not purposefully very off (which is a very common cope for when media goes to complete shit; the only reason I don't assume de facto that it was ghostwritten is the weird route dialogue, especially when you abort it). in which case i hope he fires them all. it wasnt even bad per the standards of deltarune-- i would consider it bad per the general standards of any media. like i said, it literally reads like a mediocre fan game. it reads like all of the festival was some power fantasy noelle wrote in her diary. abysmal and inexcusable

Also the idea of ralsei and Susie being so fucking goated and good for each other that fate itself has to go “nope, you can’t” and forcefully separate them and backtrack them into shitty archetypes of themselves is 1)funny, 2)would make a turn where Susie manages to defy fate anyway with his help and they get a happy ending so omega giga based that I wonder if tobert fox is ready for it. My name is tobert fox and I accidentally wrote two of the star crossed romances of all time.
Part autopsy of Susie's utter character assassination from 5, part crackpot theory, part ralsusie (who do you think i am not to do that), and definitely cope for Toby being functionally braindead
Spoilers for both routes of chapter 5
So, susie was weird. Actually saying susie was weird is being charitable, because what I actually want to say is that a skinwalker took over susie and puppeted her pixeled flesh over 7 hours of gameplay. This post analyses what the fuck happened to Susie, under the presumption that the Suswalker is intentional, and not toby writing shitty yuri with one hand under the table-- taking from a very particular outcome in the 5 Weird Route.
(and by the way... wasn't Ral also a little weird...?)
you know it's bad when even people who like suselle found the confession abrupt. Obviously, i am not that, so to me it was especially jarring, considering how even at the very beginning of 5, when the skinwalker is already in effect, Susie still makes a note to kris that if things go well, they'll get another chance to get the bunker code, only to become as obsessive of noelle later as noelle was of her in the earlier chapters (the most grating part of her character).
But not only does that happen, but there's several instances of weirdness that I continue to be indecisive as to whether they're intentional or not. This post lays out the argument about them being intentional; what they are and why they could be there.
Anti-Susie
upon seeing Susie wearing a ribbon i capped the sprite and sent it to a friend captioned: ABSOLUTELY NOT. While under the assumption Toby is just stupid I am deeply disappointed, the truth of the matter is in my file, Ralsei immediately pointed out that he thought Susie not to like ribbons. He points this out even *after* Susie has already requested to wear a ribbon, which is, in itself, a red flag.
Susie's opposition to ribbons was a core symbol of her as the prophecy-breaker; the person who enacted her will regardless of "fate". I believe if the skinwalker is present there intentionally, this abrupt, one-night turnaround is meant to bring attention to how out of character she is. This is the reason Ralsei, too, brings attention to it in-universe. And it is but one instance of Susie doing a heel-face turn on several aspects of her character.
Susie has not really demonstrated any specific attraction to any one character. By the end of chapter 4, despite the sequence in Noelle's house, she still isn't doting over her in any way that stands out from how she does with everyone else. Then in one night she's suddenly flustered and excited and nervous-- despite Noelle not being her first choice to the festival, which she points out to Noelle herself, while at her house. In the span of morning to dusk of one day, she calls her day with Noelle "one of the best days ever", says that it keeps getting better, and insists that she really, REALLY likes her back.
And yet
-During the date, Susie still brings up how it was special to be alone with Kris at the diner.
-Upon consuming the tree cake in the DW, which in its description is said to taste like joyful memories, Ralsei and Susie think of each other. If dating Noelle truly was one of the best days ever, why did she not think of the ice cream they shared, and instead thinks of the cakes Ral makes?
-Susie's "idea of love" is naive and confused at best; and she emphasises that it requires that someone like you first, implying a substantial aspect of her infatuation is Noelle being infatuated with her,
-Susie says she can't stop thinking about Noelle's... heartbeat. Not anything particular about Noelle's appearance, or personality. Just her heartbeat upon holding her. Weird.
But there's more. Despite Susie's emphasis on rejecting traditional femininity, the minute Kris (and the player) enter castle town immediate focus is placed on Susie's appearance -- especially on her failure to conform to femininity-- and her nervousness and excitement about dating noelle. This ties directly into the ribbon. Susie has always been depicted in suits and other "boyish" clothing. She has strong, assertive, loud demeanor.
Why is everyone in the dark world being so emphatic of Susie gushing over Noelle, Noelle's name being in her every breath?
When Ralsei first makes rooms for Kris and Susie, Susie's door is shaped like a crown. The crowns always stood out. Jokingly I said Ralsei was calling her his princess. Now it turns out Flowery repeatedly addresses her as a princess, and you can dress her as a princess. She never opposes this, nor is she particularly visibly upset about it.
Despite questioning Kris' red heart, she accepts exposition about UI elements without flinching.
She retcons her reason for bullying kris from the explicit connection to their family and Toriel in all prior chapters and Newest Girl Girl, to being about thinking Kris and Noelle were dating. So not only has her current self changed, but also her retroactive understanding of events.
And this, in fact, seems to intensify across the chapter: At the beginning she still tells Kris she'll search for the bunker code, but near the end all of her interactions alone with the flowers are to have shallow one note expositions about love with Noelle. When you first equip the ribbon on her, she wears it as a bandanna, and is later shown with it on her head.
Just, what?
Sequence Breaking
It is at this point that I bring up that 3-5 were originally meant to be all delivered as a single package. Under the presumption that this was intentional, then, was the intent for us to jump immediately from one to the next, and be put off by the abrupt change in tone and characterisation? Is Ral pointing out all the ways in which she acts off and things are off -- despite being consumed by it himself, on some level, meant to remind you of how things were just yesterday?
And if so, what happened in the interlude between 4 and 5?
In my "Off the Rails" Ralsusie analysis of 3 and 4, I posited that Suselle is the "love finds its way to the girl" event of the prophecy. At the time my hypothesis was that Susie was then going to wield the pen of hope and reject that for herself. That would be Susie of course; not the skinwalker. We also know now that the field of pink and gold being scorched by the flames of jealousy wasn't about Asgore and Noelle as I initially thought, but Ralsei feeling jealousy and apprehension of Flowery-- Interestingly, over Susie's attention...
But wait. The fields weren't scorched by the inferno of jealousy. Ralsei has fire magic, and yet he did not burn everything down. But he was substantially pettier and more bitter than his usual self, almost uncharacteristically so--
Things are Weird
The Weird Route has an alternate outcome. Kris and Noelle can drown in the lake. The screen fades to white, and they are forcefully rolled back to-- The suselle scene at the beach.
While it continues to play out, it is intercut with Noelle's awareness that she could not defy fate. That because the player did not input "Proceed" sufficiently quick, Noelle alone could not change the set outcome. Only the player, whom she understands as Kris, has the agency to oppose it.
She still romances Susie, but the intercut scenes and her prior monologue about observing herself going through the motions imply that in this instance, she is acutely aware that she could be free, and couldn't do so. These thoughts exist, but are not outwardly expressed whatsoever. Instead, she posits to Susie the question as to whether she should run away, sequence break-- and then turns the possibility back and refuses to do so, wanting to stay for Susie's sake.
When you use the Shadow Crystal while the party's all together in 5, you can see "Susie at a window, unkempt and glaring." Noelle describes watching herself as if from behind glass.
Susie's resolve at the end of chapter 4 is to defy fate at whatever cost, so that the final tragedy does not have to occur. She leaves Toriel's house and canonically heads to the Dark World.
And then the following morning, a skinwalker.
Here's the crackpot hypothesis: What allows you to reach SIDE B is your power as the player. Susie does not have this power.
Susie wants to defy fate. Susie tries to defy fate. The next day, who is at the Dark world is The Girl. The girl who wears ribbons. The princess. The girl that love finds its way to.
Susie says Ralsei is "chattier" when Kris is not around. Ralsei stood up to fate by obeying her command to remove his hat. The other thing that everyone is emphatic about in the DW, besides susie being utterly besotted with Noelle, is that Ralsei should be wearing a hat. The hat is forced upon him twice.
Ralsei wanted to believe things should change, just as Susie did. She inspired key steps he took toward his own personhood. She was the one to urge him to make his room his.
Ralsei believed. Ralsei stood up to fate. Ralsei broke the rules. The universe quickly reminded him that he should not do so-- Or Everything Breaks Apart.
Ralsei prays for Kris. Ralsei prays for Susie, and prays, desperate already, for things to change.
They don't. Love finds its way to the girl. The princess with her heart crossed with hope. And her ribbons.
Quick final thoughts
This in itself is an appetizer for a grander theory about the prophecy and the game making sure things stay on track across all media that takes after the prophecy; from Dragon Blazers to Lord of the Hammer to Deltarune itself. The theory's being worked on with two very dear friends, but it's still at the workshop. This post is solely my thoughts, though they definitely were a part of it. Look forward to it being cooked! Needless to say there's lots of interesting stuff with this idea of the game "railroading" everyone by force so that things play out how they're "supposed to"...
or toby's just a huge fucking idiot. but the weird route is almost too good for that to be entirely true
This is such a good theory holy shit. The more you think about the interactions and happenings of this chapter, the more intentional it feels. I had already clocked that the "love finds it's way to the girl" prophecy was coming to pass but everything else?
I don't think Toby is stupid, as you said, the weird route this chapter is proof of that.
Quick thing about hatsei: in the other chapters, even without his hat on, the fireworks, tenna game sprites and other things portray Ralsei with the hat on. Him not having his hat on is a sequence break which is probably why the game was trying so desperately to put it back on him so he can get back in line.
I do agree the romance between Susie and Noelle feels very forced and I think it's meant to. Something is off the chapter, beneath the lively flower dark world and funny interactions is something terrible brewing beneath. All the love stuff was mainly directed at Susie and she just unusually went along with it. Ralsei was much more snippy and jealous of Flowery, and yet the garden did not burn, another example of him sequence breaking.
I think this chapter was showcasing the game trying to force the prophecy into fruition, there is some sort of force trying to get the prohecy back on track. But it's so subtle if you're not disecting the interactions more than surface level.
I bet next chapter, most of this theory will be right.
Reblogging because I didn’t go that in depth into ralsei hat, but you’re completely right about the game having depicted him with his hat all along despite him ditching it. Which feeds into this view more… thanks for the addition 🔥
I'm not done with ch5 yet but I'll be real that festival dragged onnnn as someone who is neutral on sus/noe
i've heard even shippers were confused by the confession which admittedly made me think it has to be more intentional. it's just that often i have heard the "intentional bad writing" cope turning out to be completely false.
I've just posted a theorypost about why Susie is so OoC and the whole thing is so ass, but admittedly that is one side of the coin, other side being that toby's just a fucking dumbass. dunno what to think atp

vsa.. how are you feeling about the chapter 5 weird route content
i got snowgravepilled
honestly there's a lot about it to the point that i want to make a big theorypost again like i did about "Off the Rails", so i'll keep that rather close, but I will say that it's the only part of all of ch5 that i enjoyed wholeheartedly, that at this point I believe the fever dream toby had was about this rather than default DR and so the normal route exists so we can understand the context for the fever dream, and that *if intentional*, it completely recontextualises aspects of the normal route to me in a pleasantly surprising way
I also now believe noelle being interested in game glitches/exploits has been emphasised in meta/arg stuff like the spamton sweepstakes because it sets the stage for the happenings of ch5 snowgrave
Incestuous self referential bullshit, repeated assets and music, inconsistent characterisation that does not follow up on either what was set up on chapter 4 or how the characters have acted up to this point to the point they’re shockingly out of character, sense of humour that repeatedly falls flat and will date terribly, tonal whiplash, music that was just kind of there and forgettable (which is bad solely due to the standard the music was at), the flowers are annoying and one note and by the end I literally wanted for them to die because they overstayed their welcome so aggressively, whole thing felt padded and off-kilter, lack of progress wrt the actual story with just hinting at the same things that anyone with an above third grade reading comprehension could already infer from subtext in the prior 4 chapters, absolute misuse of Asgore with an unsatisfying resolution
Everything that I liked about it was basically mechanical rlly, and even then it’s so gimmick reliant, it’s just that the gimmicks are well executed and fun to play. The combination of it all making it feel like a fan product made by an over enthusiastic teenaged undertale fan who wants to shove ALL the references and make it a “wink wink nudge nudge, get it?” Masturbatory meme fest. Genuinely I don’t know what the fuck they were thinking with this one. If Toby decided to relegate the writing, he needs to fire the entire team
The scene of Susie wearing a ribbon is the epitome of my disdain for it all. If you assassinate a character so badly that it needs to be theorised that things are deliberately screwy and wrong for it to make sense how out of character they’re acting, it’s joever

what has been your favourite chapter of deltarune so far? when it comes to character dynamics and exploration i loved chapter 2 so much and my only wish is that we got to see noelle and ralsei interact because well to be honest i like them, but beyond that i think there is potential for friendship!
visuals and story wise though i loved chapter 4 and all of the new elements that it introduced to the plot but it had so many new gameplay elements i almost felt like i was playing a mod at times 😂
You're not wrong in 3 and 4 pushing the experimental aspects harder than ever before but i am just vibes-based enough personally that i ate that shit upppp overall my fave chapter is definitely 4. something about the music and the chimes and the horror and how the characters are put in situations of conflict and how much we learn about susie and her relationship with kris developing is just so immaculate. Perhaps it is a little cliched to say the most recent chapter is your favorite, but i think it is an excellent boiling point for the main cast and find the audiovisual aspects so goddamn good
