i haven’t been reading superboy ‘94 for very long, so i dunno how long he stayed in hawaiʻi or if this idea would be plausible even if he was there for an extended period of time… but as someone who was born and raised there i think it would be really cute if superboy adopted little bits and pieces of hawaiʻian culture after some time there.
superboy who gets lei after saving the day again. superboy who eats loco moco and coconut haupia and puts li hing mui on his pineapple. superboy who tries to join a hālau to impress the girls who do hula there. superboy who calls flip flops “slippers” and soy sauce “shoyu.” superboy who accepts shave ice as payment for superhero services.
i think superboy is, in some ways, a story of ʻohana. superboy is searching for his name and his place in the world and for people that love him, and maybe a little touch of hawaiʻian culture in his storytelling could help sell that. but also i miss my island and i’m projecting so…
