metatron’s line abt how cas is “in love with humanity” can obviously be attributed to destiel being censored, but it goes further than that. dean is the epitome of humanity. now we KNOW he is the most caring man on earth (source: castiel angel of the lord), but he is the prime example of humans sticking together and taking care of one another with no expectations for it to be reciprocated (smth abt how the beginning of civilization/humanity is marked by the first healed broken bones found), but also the fact that dean is obsessed with the arts and human creation. music is his life. whether in baby or in midwestern motel rooms, he had music. he absorbed john’s taste in music and saw that as how to be closer to someone he admired. one of the only objects we are ever shown to be in cas’ possession is a mixtape given to him by dean. the thing that he feels is most necessary to give someone who Has Nothing. he’s an artist (source: men of letters bestiary entries/illustrations). he likes to cook for the people he loves. one of the first things he does when they move into the bunker is to make food for him and sam, making a birthday cake (albeit not very well) for jack when he knows how much it means to him. he watches movies and shows and uses that as his way to connect with people. every other sentence he makes a pop culture reference because he feels that it’s a way to relate to others and show that they have something in common. he became friends with charlie and became family by sharing that love for creation with her. he makes people laugh (or at least, tries to) because that’s something he can do to make peoples lives just a little bit better if he can’t do anything else. he emulates his heroes, whether fictional or real, to be the person he always felt he needed for other people. dean is the epitome of what it means to be human, of course including all the messiness, but more importantly, the good parts.
