in japan, bobtail cats are considered good luck. this disability of theirs also mimics vriskas amputated arm. calico cats are also good luck! theyve been kept around as good luck charms on ships, which is another reason, connecting to vriskas pirate themes.

when i got into the hobby, the cyriopagopus lividus were known as the haplopelma lividum, but got reclassified in 2015. upon doing research in the WSC (the previous link) i learned just today that they were part of the big group of asian fossorials that got recently reclassified into the newly created melopoeus genus this year, so thats what ill be calling it from here on!

the melopoeus lividus is an asian fossorial tarantula from thailand and myanmar. fossorial means they burrow deep under ground. they come from very humid enviornments in the wild. the electric blue of their setae, or hairs, are actually clear, reflecting that bright neon blue in the sunlight. some other tarantulas with this clear blue-refracting setae are the poecilotheria metallica, chilobrachys natanicharum, birupes simoroxigorum, and the seladonia/paschoali/costae species in the typhochlaena genus. some of these tarantulas, and the melopoeus lividus, have this clear blue-refracting setae that fades into a deep navy blue to black to brown in premolt, or has a combination of both navy And clear.

in captivity, the melopoeus lividus is known to be defensive. they rarely leave their deep burrows. when disturbed, theyll stay peeerfectly still until one little disturbance sets them off, which is when they run. and they run FAST. theyre known as "teleporters" in the hobby. theyre also known to do double bites; they have very potent venom causing muscle cramps/spasms, whole body pains, aches, fevers, and even hallucinations. it can take months to heal, so twice the bite is twice the venom. i have an asian fossorial species thats very similar, the chilobrachys natanicharum, and man is that little guy FAST! asian fossorials are really fascinating, though, and keeping them is really fun. just gotta be careful that they dont escape. but if you know your tarantulas individual personality, its pretty easy.

the monocentropus balfouri was introduced to the hobby as a supposed "communal species" back in, what, 2016? while good keepers nowadays acknowledge that there is no such thing as a true communal tarantula (true communal meaning that they dont cannibalize each other, link provided is an 8yo video on the care for a communal setup which may have outdated info but is a good intro to their care when they entered the hobby), the monocentropus balfouri are the closest to it. they tolerate each other in close quarters, and have even been documented sharing prey items with one another.

im very busy and ive had one hell of a year already so please be patient. while it may take a hot moment i keep a detailed list of active commissions and i will give updates when i have them. i have very poor health including but not limited to postural cranio-cervical instability, severe migraines, and bad issues with my joints, so i often cant/shouldnt work on art for more than 1-2hrs at a time. if you arent willing to wait, please dont commission me. i cant do refunds. right now im saving up so i can buy supplies to redo some of my makeup before a cosplay convention ive been planning to go to with some friends since middle of last year (the titanium dioxide/arrowroot powder ive been using is cross contaminated with tree nuts and soy, and i only noticed recently, so i have to remake all of my lipsticks/gray facepaint). ill also be using the money to go towards medicinal marijuana/CBD so i can sleep properly and eat three meals a day without puking it back up
