Was in a conversation with someone the other day who was praising Madeline Miller's The Song of Achilles, and I mentioned that while I really liked TSoA, I had a lot of fun reading her newer book Circe, too, and they should give that one a try. And they said "...Sorry, not interested. It doesn't sound gay enough for me." And stopped listening before I could explain why I liked the book (or that it's also got queer content in it, too), and I don't know. I'm not trying to turn this into a thesis or anything, I just wish people liked/cared about women more.

theres an assumption that if an alien has an alien gender system they wouldnt understand homophobia but maybe they just have their own more complex version of homophobia. alien society with eight genders and a horribly complex web of what is considered socially acceptable that makes the gender binary look like easy mode. i'm inventing homophobia 2 and it's terrible.
