thinking about garrus keeping his problems to himself, not wanting to add to shepard's, wanting to be there for her and be her rock through this damned war. but one night it bubbles over. he's distant, visibly stressed, not in the mood - so instead shepard and he go to sleep. and in the quiet night cycle, shepard's back pulled into his chest, he breathes it out into her hair; his dad and sister were supposed to check in that day, but there was no word. shepard wraps her hand around his curled over her stomach. "oh, garrus", she says. there's not much else to say. a low clicking sound starts up from deep in his chest. it stutters staccato as he tries and fails to keep his emotions in check. he goes on; had missed the death and funeral of his mother, didn't even find out she had passed until his mission was over. came home to an angry sister who thought he had abandoned the family. he never really patched things up with her properly. but he had finally, for once, been on good terms with his dad, until...
