"Marcus." Jake's tone was firm. "I wish to talk to you about your latest behaviour, if you please."
Marcus glared up from where he’d been idly preening his feathers, void-black eyes locked on his P.A. “What are you talkin’ about, Jake?”
“Love y’too, love y’so, so much, promise.” He mumbled into Jake’s hair, trying to keep his talons from piercing the P.A’s skin. “Don’ let ‘em take me again.” That was something he knew Jake couldn’t keep, but the words made him feel just a bit more sane.
He wrapped his wings around Jake, the mottled gold casting an odd mix of shine and shadow onto their skin. “I won’ letcha go.”
“I know, I know, I love you very much too Marcus.” Jake held him as close as possible, reveling in his familiar warmth and words. This was his Marcus, his most precious in the world. He’d do anything for him. After all, Jake was there for Marcus before; he would never abandoned him now.
“I will always bring you back.” He promised softly. “You will not lose me.”
“M’slippin’, I’m always slippin’ further an’ further…” Marcus whined, cringing as the colour of his wings began to fade to a duller shade. “They’re always pullin’ me back, Jakey…” He clutched his P.A tighter, as if his presence would make the sinking stop. He knew it wouldn’t.
