simply said it just compels me that uzui is a still-alive hashira who doesn’t lose his life but does lose his standing. in a way he is the best off of the surviving hashira because he still has his wives (aka those he loves). the others have lost something significant, something dear, taken by demons and it can never be returned. uzui’s outcome in many ways is superficial and he will arguably be Fine. uzui, as far as we know, never got a mark either. sanemi and giyuu will have a short lives with limited closure. uzui will outlive the hashira, and live to see the rest grow up.

i mean listen i could also just as easily argue that uzui stepping down as a hashira is not the selfish choice but rather his gauging of the situation that he is now less able, less useful, and thus must demote himself to the station he ought to be at instead while not actually leaving the corps since he still offers his life to protect the master’s children
