This is why it is so imperative that we help people suffering from mental illness and how it is key to helping fight addiction. At Volunteer of America, Utah we help save lives by providing services for people experiencing Homelessness, Addiction and Mental Illness. Check us out at www.voaut.org and e mail us your questions at [email protected]
The United States faces a deeply troublesome, maddeningly persistent racial gap in income and wealth. Homelessness is a symptom of racism.

Help Us with Fill The Pack 2015!
www.voaut.org/fillthepack
Fill the Pack was created by our volunteer and board member, Martha Crook, who got the idea of providing holiday backpacks for homeless youth during Christmas back in 2010. As a mother, she loved her vivacious and energetic teenager son, David, who unexpectedly passed away and which ultimately led Martha to Volunteers of America, Utah's Homeless Youth Resource Center. She came to the Center to donate David's clothes and was touched by a young homeless youth that was ecstatic and grateful for the clothes that Martha had brought in. From there, Martha knew her son was still with her and was giving her strength and the ability to move on. Fill the Pack is now an annual holiday drive that not only provides necessary and critical items for youth but it also promotes the spirit of giving for many individuals who willingly give to make Fill the Pack a success each year!
We hope you will join us this holiday season. Help us collect 200+ backpacks and raise $20,000 that will go directly to providing services to homeless youth throughout the year. We are collecting new backpacks, basic need items and fun holiday gifts now. Let your holiday giving mean more to you and your family by providing necessary and critical items for these youth. For many of these youth it will be the only gift they will receive this winter, thank you for being apart of that."
To make a difference in the life of one of our homeless youth and to participate in our Fill the Pack opportunity, please download on our website at www.voaut.org/fillthepack . This contains important details and our wish list of items needed to complete a backpack. You may also choose to make a financial contribution of $100. This will go to provide not only a holiday backpack to a youth but also includes providing for them to receive a day of valuable services.
Volunteers of America's 2015 Silver Spurs Fundraising event was spectacular ! This exciting event had pearl jewelry, food, drinks, vacation getaways like Hawaii and even a puppy that all were auctioned off to help provide funds in hopes of helping the vulnerable homeless youth in the community!
VOA recently began building a Homeless Youth Shelter, the first in Salt Lake City, Utah providing 24 hour care and education. After fundraising for years VOA will be making this dream a reality.
The Silver Spurs Event helped generate funds that will go towards assisting with the new Shelter that should be finished in 9 months time.
Volunteers of America, Utah is a human services nonprofit organization with more than 150 paid staff who serve more than 10,000 people across the state each year through programs addressing homelessness, substance abuse, mental illness, and domestic violence.

Here is a video of one of the programs we offer.
VOA’s Young Women’s Transition Home provides one of the critical first steps to self-sufficiency – safe shelter. It also provides the safety net and support that leads to education, employment, and critical life skills thatyoung women struggling with homelessness need to reach their full potential. The program fills a critical gap in our society today, by giving these young ladies the encouragement, love, respect and expectations they so desperately need. This residential program is 18-months long and requires the girls to log 40 hours of productive work each week. This could be by going to school, work, counseling, or a volunteer position. Through case management, goal setting and groups and classes that teach critical life skills, young women ages 16-19 receive guidance and structure to help them finish their education and transition from instability and homelessness to reunification with family and self-sufficiency. - See more at: http://www.voaut.org/young-womens-transition-home#sthash.mGeIW9zr.dpuf
SPIRIT OF GIVING AWARD
Each year, Volunteers of America honors an individual or group with our Spirit of Giving Award for their invaluable support of our organization. For 2015, Volunteers of America, Utah, is proud to honor the Larry H. & Gail Miller Family Foundation with its 2015 Spirit of Giving Award. The foundation was formed in 2007 to allow the philanthropic spirit, which Larry and Gail so graciously established, to continue for generations to come. A guiding principle of the Larry H. Miller Group of Companies is to “Go about doing good until there’s too much good in the world.” Gail exemplifies this principle and firmly believes that giving back to the communities where her businesses reside is an important part of the company’s success.
