âdo you ever get the feeling like someoneâs watching you?â
âwhat?â your best friend looks at you confused, sipping on her drink as you guys eat at a breakfast place together.
âso iâll take that as a no.â you say nervously and clear your throat.
âi think youâre just stressed out, youâre being overworked at your job as of late.â
you sigh before letting out a light chuckle, âyouâre right. i donât know whatâs going on with me, i feel like iâm going crazy.â
you catch a familiar figure in the distance pass by in the span of a secondâbarely a glimpseâclearly not enough to warrant suspicion.
yeah iâm definitely going crazyâŚ
in reality, you werenât crazy. your intuition was onto something, but it wasnât good enough to catch the likes of the assassin who kept watch on you.
amĂŠlie first set eyes on you during a mission entirely independent from you as a person. you happened to be walking by and she caught you on her scope. she followed you with her scope, staring at you intensely as she held her breath.
you were a normal and very sweet girl. so innocent and kind. it wouldâve been a shame if harm ever came your way. amĂŠlie wouldnât allow it.
she waited for you to be far enough to eliminate her target without notice. then she followed you home.
from then on sheâs been watching you very closely, youâre her favorite thing to play with.
and she hates when anyone else enters her playhouse.
sheâs not dumb of course. sheâs obsessed with you, not an illogical maniac.
she wouldnât kill your family or best friends. she knows that would ultimately destroy what you and her have, you would not forgive her for such a thing.
but anyone else? itâs game over if they stand a little too close to you.
for example, your coworker who suddenly stopped showing up to work.
he had not long ago asked you out on a date after a work dinner, to which you politely declined.
he pestered you a bit about it, making you slightly uncomfortable. but he dropped it the next dayâeverything was fine.
no one had heard anything for a few days, untilâŚ.
âdid you hear the news?â one of your coworkers greeted you as you entered the room. the office felt different, the atmosphere still and tense.
you sensed the energy and you knew, âdid something bad happen?â
she put her hands on her face, âgreg is dead. he killed himself. can you believe that?â
you stared at her blankly, âwhat?â
âpolice found him in his apartment yesterday, said he hung himself and even wrote a noteâŚâ
you knew something was wrong. you noticed that anyone that was even remotely interested in you would disappear from thin air. you want to say itâs just bad luck, but you felt utterly uneasy.
greg was just promoted at the workplace and seemed excited to travel to japan the next month, why would he kill himself?
you took it upon yourself to do research about recent murders or âsuicidesâ, attempting to investigate if there was a pattern the police missed.
you were beyond paranoid now, what if this something that is following you plans to kill you next?
in the shadows, unbeknownst to you, amĂŠlie watched you. slightly amused about your paranoia.
didnât you know? she could never hurt you.
âiâm serious.â you stated, having dinner with your best friend at your place the same day you found out.
â⌠iâm getting worried about you. i know all these events are pretty scary, but itâs not healthy to constantly think about them.â she explains as she puts down her fork.
âno, no. but donât you see? first it was isaac, then olivia, then yvette, now greg. it canât be coincidence anymore.â you plead your friend to believe you.
your friend looks at you in pity before sighing, âokay, if youâre really worried. we can go to the police station and file a report first thing tomorrow.â
you sigh in relief, âthat would be good. thank you.â
the same night, you lied in bed unable to sleep.
you twisted and turned, struggling to find the peace to sleep as paranoia coursed through your entire body.
you couldnât wait to go to the police station in a few hours, you knew you were onto something.
just as your eyes started fluttering shut, you caught just a glimpse of a shadow move from through the curtain of your window above your bed.
you immediately sat up and stared at your window in fear.
thatâs it, iâm not waiting for my death to happen. iâm going to the police station right now.
you quickly put on your slippers and jacket. the moment you put your hand on the door knob you felt cold air hit your neck.
you freeze in horror, slowly turning around and seeing your window wide open, the curtain flowing because of the air entering in.
âi wouldnât do that if i were you.â a voice says.
you jump, feeling your neck hair stand up and your skin crawl.
she emerges from the shadows, a tall slender woman smiling at you.
ây-youâŚâ you could barely muster words from the intense fear you felt in your body.
âoh, ma chĂŠrie⌠do not be afraid. i will not hurt you.â she says softly, yet with something sinister creeping behind her tone.
âwho are you?â you manage to utter.
âif i tell you, you will tell the police. mon amour, you are too humorous.â
she steps away from the shadows and walks closer to you, her blue skin hard to miss even in the dark. you are too shaken up to move an inch.
she smiles gracefully, âoh my⌠you are much more beautiful up close, comme c'est jolieâŚâ
she moves a strand of hair behind your ear and cups your face with her cold hand. tracing her thumb over your lips, she begins to speak again.
âi am sorry for scaring you⌠i just canât help myself when imbĂŠciles think they can have you. they are not worthy of you ma chĂŠrie, they needed to be eradicated.â
âyou killed innocent people.â you mutter.
âhm? they were not innocent. they had tainted and vulgar thoughts about you, their filth needed to be cleaned.â she explains nicely, as if it werenât a big deal.
she leans in closer and plants soft kisses on your neck, you shudder from how cold her lips are against your skin.
she lets out a light chuckle, âmy apologies, i forget about my body temperature sometimes.â
you donât utter a word, she steps back and studies your face.
âyou are angry with me mon amour⌠itâs okay, itâll pass.â
âiâm reporting you to the policeââ you begin to say before she grabs your wrist and forces you back to your bed.
âah, ah, ahâŚâ she shushes you as your heart racesâfrom fear of course.
âma chĂŠrie⌠even if you do, you know they wonât believe you, right?â
you start to understand the situation more now and gather the courage to speak to her confidently, âi donât care. you canât get away with this.â
âthey were going to hurt you one way or another, i saved you.â she says as she caresses your waist.
âwhat kind of sick and twisted individual are you?â
she laughs, âquel sale gosse, so far iâm loving getting to know you more personally rather than watching you from afar.â
you try to get out of her hold, but she tightens her grip just enough to not hurt you.
âthat guy⌠what was him name? george⌠fred⌠whatever doesnât matterâ he crossed several lines with you,â she began to say.
âthat âsuicideâ note was not an apology for his death, but an apology for you mon amour. he had accepted punishment and atoned for his sins.â
âyou punish people for their âsinsâ, yet youâve committed many?â you question her, confused by her logic.
âwell⌠i never said i was a saint, did i?â she smirks.
you felt your skin crawl and your stomach do flips. however, the fear had slowly subsidedâ intrigue growing instead.
you start to wonder⌠why me? whatâs so special about me that someone would go to such lengths to keep me safe?
she was a beautiful womanâthe blue skin was questionableânonetheless, her beauty completely distracted you.
you didnât have a lot of positive romantic experiences, so maybe that was to blame for your slight interest in amĂŠlie despite what sheâs done.
youâve never had anyone care for you like she does.
she sensed the shift in your body language and let go of your wrists before proceeding to play with your hair.
âdone resisting?â
you nod and she smiles, âwe have a lot to learn about each other, ma chĂŠrieâwell besides what i donât already know.â
â
(a/n: not too much on me if thereâs typos or grammatical errors i wrote this half asleep
