Keith never liked to admit that he was wrong. It was embarrassing, time consuming, and uncomfortable. Yet here he was listening to Lance lecture to him about their last mission. Lance looks the red paladin up and down with a sigh.
“Are you even listening to me?! You put the team in danger with how impulsive that was!” The black paladin places his hands on his hips, ignoring the glances from the other paladins in the room. Keith brushed his hair from his eyes in embarrassment, gritting his teeth. He bites his lip before standing, looking Lance in the eye.
“You and Plaxum were in danger! You guys needed my help!” Keith growls out. The mermaid in question ducks her head with a frown, playing with her tail fin nervously. Lance brushes a set of curls behind his ear, glancing at his girlfriend. He pushes his glasses up his nose, taking a moment to think.
“We didn’t need your help Keith. Plaxum and I can take care of ourselves. This is the third mission gone wrong because of this. You need to learn that we can take care of ourselves. This meeting is over. Everyone, get some rest.” Lance leaves the room after dropping his final order, and Plaxum follows quickly, calling his name. Keith remains standing, and he glares at the other three paladins who stare at him. With a growl, Keith turns and storms out of the room. Hunk and Pidge glance at each other before looking at Allura. She sighs, and rubs her tired eyes while standing and following Keith.
She finds him in the common room, curled up on the couch. With a slight smirk, she lets out a yawn. With how tired she wasn’t could easily be confused as real. She stands in front of Keith’s curled up form letting out a slight giggle. She pokes one of his dark skinned cheeks and feels her shoulders shake at the grunt she receives. She pokes him again and he turns letting out a growl. Allura laughs before feeling her face grow dark as she schemes.
“Wow! What a big empty couch! More room for me I guess!” She says her voice overly loud and sarcastic. She turns and jumps back, landing on the pouting Keith with a slight ‘oof’. He groans, and she lays on him obnoxiously.
“What a comfy cushion! I’m so glad I have this couch all to myself!” She says, ignoring the struggles beneath her. Keith lets out a groan, going limp.
“Your worse than Shiro. Are you sure your an only child?” Keith’s muffled voice asks from below her. She lets out an affirming hum, and he sighs.
“So you wanna talk about it, or should I go find your brother?” The altean asks, dragging a finger down her arm, watching the pink markings swirl like clouds under her touch. Keith thinks for a moment and speaks quietly.
“I’ll talk if you get off. Final offer.”
Allura nods with a smug smile, rolling off the red paladin. He sits up, and sucks in a gulp of air.
“You smell like goo and flowers. That doesn’t mix well.” He says, pushing at the princess with a foot. She laughs and pushes back halfheartedly.
“And you smell like sad and angst. So, what’s up with you and your va’rabs? You’ve been overly protective of them as of late.” Allura says, her head tilting in question. Keith looks to the floor in thought.
“I think it’s because…I feel weak compared to them. I want to prove that I’m strong, worthwhile, and I want to show that I have a use.” He murmurs.
Allura perks up at this her lazy smile fading.
“Keith your plenty strong! You don’t have to prove anything!” She says placing a hand on his arm, a thumb rubbing into his dark skin gently. He nods, and hugs himself, his fingers playing with the blue paladins.
“I know but…do they know?” He asks quietly. Allura opens her mouth to speak but closes it, looking at something above Keith’s head. She leans back, and let’s Plaxum hug Keith from behind. Plaxum places a peck on the red paladins cheek, and he sniffles.
“Of course we know how strong you are! You don’t need to prove anything! Just because you can’t take out 15 Galra by yourself like I can doesn’t mean you aren’t as strong as me!” She says nuzzling into his shoulder. Keith laughs at her bragging while nodding. Allura stands, and watches the couple before leaving, going to find Lance. Plaxum places a hand on the red paladins cheek, gently brushing the hair from his eyes.
“You can use a sword better than anyone I’ve ever met, you can calm me and Lance down with a single smorch, AND your the most passionate person I know! Your not weak at all! I hate the terms weak and strong anyway! Everyone is different, and everyone is good at something’s and bad at others. Your no different. So stop putting yourself in danger for us ok? You don’t have to prove a single thing!” The mer says, looking Keith in the eyes. He nods sniffling, his eyes misting at the gentle caress from her. She places a kiss on his face, and stands, pulling him up.
“Now hug your boyfriend.” She says, turning him to the awkwardly standing Lance in the door of the room. Allura gives a thumbs up over the black paladins shoulder, and Plaxum returns it with a grin. Keith walks towards Lance, rubbing at the nape of his neck. The black paladin smiles softly, opening his arms. Keith falls into them, and they hug. Lance pets Keith’s hair, letting out a small hum of approval.
“I’m sorry for being rude Keith. I’m not going to give you another lecture because Plaxum said anything I could say ten times better.” Lance says with a chuckle. Both paladins laugh and agree that, yes, Plaxum is better at pep talks. The mer prances forwards, enveloping her boys in a tight hug, lifting them off the ground with ease. The three then sit together on the couch in silence, cuddling. Keith never liked to admit that he was wrong. But when he had his va’rabs with him, he felt a little better about it.
