Clip Studio Paint/Manga Studio tutorials for brush outlines and instant transparency
These things might be common knowledge and Iām just oblivious, but I saw a tweet with a really neat hair brush and wanted to find out how to do it myself, My Japanese is abysmal and Google translate was no help at all, so I played around, with the help of the OPās screenshots, until I figured out how to get it working.

The outlines themselves are a part of āLayer Properties,ā which applies an outline to everything on the layer that the effect is applied to. I prefer vector layers for lining, but this requires rasterizing the layers to achieve opacity.
Examples of the border effect and achieving transparency!Ā
Effect: outline, tone, color ā these can all be active at the same time
Border effect: solid line, watercolor line ā the latter replicates the watercolor outline option that is in individual brush settings, as far as I can tell
(solid line option) Thickness of edge: the minimum width of the outline is 1px
(solid line option) Edge color: this is an oooold school color picker, but it can be any color you want
Expression color: color, gray, monotone ā I believe the gray and monotone work similarly, except the choice to pick the color range with monotone, but Iām not sure it differs from theĀ ācolorā options in layer effect?
Vector tools: the normal vector tools that apply to vector layers, rasterized layers lose these options
Thereās a few images, so Iāll put the rest under a cut. Iām only explaining the solid line option, and then how to convert those outlines to having what they contain to being transparent.
