tired of being stagnant, still

needing to choose between

the pain of staying the same

and the pain of growing.

i could drop to my knees in the gravel

let the water of the creek wash me away,

i could drag my legs through the thorns

and force myself to move

forward

through a hurt not unfamiliar to me.

a new life may cost me

the price of my old one;

but maybe

i’m less afraid than i used to be.

so throw your sneakers over the powerline

tell the passers-by on that backroad

you have been here.

tell them:

i escaped.

peeling my body off the side of the highway

i chose to keep walking;

and said a prayer for every poor soul

Today is World Lizard Day! So of course I had to celebrate by drawing a leopard gecko, the first lizard I ever had both as a kid and as an adult. When a leopard gecko gets spooked they wiggle their tails to warn off predators, unfortunately for them when you’re a human it just looks a bit silly 😭
