Think that one Affini with neopronouns doing the weird BDSM stuff to the straight girl would sound funnier in your head if you imagined em with the voice of Keith David? Well, now you can't unhear it.

What's another sexy voice you've heard before? How about that goth queen from your old Disney channel comfort show, Star vs the Forces of Evil? Yeah, Eclipsa. She's the plant lady taking care of the main character's love interest now.

Also there's the subject of the Affini language and how I imagine it sounds, since the fic I'm reading does have dialogue that is stated to be in Affini. Yeah, so, I just imagine it's Irish, tbh. I know it's not an alien language, I know it doesn't match the grammatical rules that the text implies the Affini language to have. I just find it sexy, so there.

A weird, genetically altered plant produced little sparkly flowers that, when dried, could be crushed into a powder that could be smoked to cause euphoric effects.

There seemed to be no ill side effects besides people becoming addicted to the substance the same way they'd become addicted to alcohol.

Soon enough it was wide enough spread that a good portion of the population recreationally used it quite often. This is when masters arrived.

A strange little device they carried would cause a strange effect in those who'd taken starlight. They became docile, obedient, wiling to do whatever they were asked of. The more they'd had the stronger the effect, but even those who'd tried it only once were affected.

See, when starlight was burned and inhaled the resulting compounds would easily enter into the bloodstream via the lungs and head directly to the brain, causing the euphoric feelings.

But among those chemicals was strange substance that stayed inside the brain, becoming part of the brain's structure. In all the tests people did on this substance it seemed harmless and if anything those who took starlight were anecdotally noted as having a higher intelligence than those who didn't, so it was hypothesized that it possibly increased brain function.

But that little device that was carried by the masters did something to that chemical, the bizarre radio waves transmitted by those devices managed to excite the substance in such a way that it fried the subject's brains a bit, giving them the best high of their life, but also making them completely subservient.

Within days of the masters' arrival, nearly a third of humanity was on its knees, quite literally. Many walked into the camps set up by the masters without hesitation. And those few who dared try to stop them? Well it's quite easy to put down some troublesome pests if all it takes for someone to fall under your spell is for them to breathe in...

"The fun thing for us for that end sequence was his costume -- what he would have left over from the ship. I don't really think you see it in the film but the trousers that he's wearing, they're cut from one of the flight suits. And we've done a belt buckle that's made of xenonite that Rocky would've made for him. And all of the sewing on it is a little bit - it's nowhere near as good as Jenny would normally do, so we had to purposely ask Jenny to do bad sewing at the top of his trousers, so it'd look like he would've done it.

And then our brilliant breakdown department, run by Tim Shanahan, they break everything down to look like it's 10, 20 years old. So his cardigan and the t-shirt's all faded. And even on the laces -- the laces in his chuck taylors -- because your laces always break after a certain period of time, so we found stuff that was on the ship, like elastics and stuff. There's a nice big close-up actually in the film, so you can see that they're not normal laces, they're like stuff that he would've got from the ship that he's made as make-shift laces."
