My official take on the “reading audiobooks” debate:

When you’re listening to an audiobook, you are not reading.

However, it does give you equal claim to having read the book.

The wizardposting trend feels a bit too specific to "the D&D 5th Edition character class known as Wizard" and/or "Merlin from T.H. White's The Once And Future King" to really reel me in. The wizardposting doesn't encompass nearly enough odinposting and/or solomonposting, imo. To say nothing of väinämöinenposting.

Väinämöinen isn’t a wizard, he’s just Finnish.

Companies should really let their workers just call in sick. I wasn’t feeling great this morning and messaged my boss that I wouldn’t be coming in today. I was asked for a doctor’s note.

Now, if my boss had just let it go, I’d probably be back to work tomorrow no problem. But the doctor gave me two days leave so I’m staying home instead.

There's this really funny thing about the way little kids lie in that there are basically two different modes to it: either you caught them doing something red-handed (what the youths of today call "in 4K") and they will go to their graves denying it, or they're telling you something and make a huge exaggeration ("I ated a million candies on Halloween!") and if you play along and pretend to be really impressed they'll immediately backpedal.

Two facts that I've long struggled to reconcile are that The Lord of the Rings is supposed to be a story about and for England, and yet it's very clearly set on a continental mainland.

I've finally figured out how to fit these facts together neatly, though: the Third Age ended before Doggerland sank. Britain was not an island until at least some time into the Fourth Age.

This isn’t really “canon” anymore, but the British Isles are the result of the whale Uin dragging Tol Eressëa across the sea, the island breaking into two major pieces when Ulmo tried to stop it. I think this all happens sometime in the 5th century AD.

But this is all very deep lore, we’re talking beyond the Silmarillion.

Sometimes the books I see at work really sour my mood. Like the one called “Hero Boys” (translation mine) celebrating all the Finnish child soldiers who died for capitalism in 1918.

I sometimes hear people my age and younger wonder why the characters in the film Office Space hate their cubicles so much, they would love to have their own little workspace like that!

I think the disconnect here is that while you're comparing cubicles to an open concept work environment (i.e. Hell), the characters are comparing them to having their own offices. Because the issue they have with the cubicle are basically the exact same ones you might have with an open concept office: no privacy!
