Sweet Reunion // Beltani
It took Vi over 2 weeks to actually muster up the courage to set a date for ice cream with Belle. It wasn’t that she didn’t want to see her, it was just that... In the rehab facility, Vi didn’t really have to face her feelings for Belle. Every day her therapist would smile when she asked who had texted or called her and respond “Your friend Belle, of course.” He would ask how it made her feel to have someone who cared about her so much and she would shrug it off, say something about how she didn’t deserve it, about how Belle deserved better friends than her. She still held to that idea.
But as much as she wanted to leave Belle out of her messy life, Vi wanted so much more for her best friend to be in it again. She’d hoped that since returning home things would be different- and they were, in some ways. She hadn’t stepped foot into Pixie or the tavern, and she hadn’t had contact with any of her dealers, though they were sure to sniff out her arrival soon enough. What she wanted to change most was the way that she felt about Belle- or even the way that Belle felt (or, well, didn’t feel) about her. Vi didn’t think she could live with herself much longer if she didn’t figure out what to do about it.
The entire walk up to Ice Queen, Vi couldn’t hear anything but her thoughts screaming at her. She wanted to run away again and run right into Belle’s cottage at the same time. Her insides felt like they were ripping part at the seams. She didn’t want to face her best friend after 3 months of radio silence, but she wanted nothing more than to see her face. The once familiar bell chimed as she pushed the door open, bumps spreading across her skin from the cold breeze that washed over her. Inhale, exhale. Inhale- sweet, cool oxygen. Exhale- sour, terrified thoughts.
The way that Vi carried herself around the small shop would have fooled anyone- she seemed so cool, so under control. Soon a hand extended from behind the glass shield, wrapped around a cone of bright green and brown flecks. The same old smirk spread on her lips as she muttered her thanks and strode over to a table- their table- with the cone of sweet memories. As she waited she stared out of the window at the lake, letting the sweetness wrap around her tongue and send her thoughts to safer shores.
