Yes, I was angry when he stole Violet’s memories and violated her privacy but I also knew that his intentions weren’t evil, at least not in the way they were described. And once he learned the truth he didn’t hesitated or tried to justify it, he immediately shifted sides, even when it meant standing against everything he once believed in and aligning himself with people who hate him.

Yes he was frustrating when he pushed Violet to leave for the scribe quadrant but I honestly understand him. He was being overprotective in a wrong way.

Dain’s character development is not talked about enough and after reading Onyx Storm he became one of my favorite characters.

BUT let us not forget, the most important thing that we learn in fourth wing is DON’T TRUST THE FUCKING SCRIBES

mostly though, i love how he loves violet. he’s on quest squad with protecting and being there for his friend at the forefront of his mind because he doesn’t trust the others intentions when it comes to protecting her over xaden.

he was right to be pissed about xaden’s venin status because she had been in double danger (in his mind) all this time without someone on only her side.

i think ridoc likes xaden and considers him a friend, but he would dagger him in a heartbeat if it meant protecting violet.

But… book two? Book three dain???

He took accountability. He stepped back. He didn’t try to justify his garbage decisions. And when he saw violet again? He gave her space. He listened.

And THEN he started doing the work—putting his skills to actual use for the rebellion, respecting leadership that wasn’t his own, staying humble.

Like sir, I was fully ready to hate you forever and now you’re handing over classified intelligence like it’s flowers and apologizing without expectation?
