My newest mlp oc !!!! I love him so much, he’s my special boy.
Technically I suppose he’s a nextgen? Son of Princess Celestia :3 his name is yet to be determined (cause I’m bad at names) BUT my current name selections and lore are under the cut! For now I call him Laurie.
-Gilded/Golden Laurels (from the golden laurel crowns associated with triumph)
-Regal Relief (a double meaning, both because of his meaning to Celestia and the term ‘relief’ from statuary)
-Limestone Light (rock pun, also from “to be in the limelight”) (actually this would be a silly name for a pie family nextgen… saving this for later)
-Moonlight Laurel/ Moonlit Marble (tributes to Luna)
He was created soon after the banishment of Nightmare Moon, when Celestia’s loneliness and isolation overwhelmed her and she used her magic to shape a chunk of marble and bring the carving to life. He was half an accident, half intended- Celestia wasn’t exactly in the headspace to be a mother and she knew that, but she was also lonely enough that she didn’t really mind when her carving came alive in her arms as a little foal. Overtime she started to see him as a sort of second chance- a do over for what she lost when Luna “vanished” into Nightmare Moon. In her paranoia after the event she kept her new son quite isolated and sheltered, something she later vows to ‘redeem’ herself for with her mentorship of one Twilight Sparkle.
Laurie is, mostly, a normal unicorn pony! His magic is strong, but not as strong as one would expect from the son of The Sun. He’s quiet, mild mannered, extremely timid, and a bit strange to talk to (as he tends to use outdated language and slang). This is because he’s about 1000 years old. When he began growing up at a usual pony rate despite being created from marble, Celestia panicked and cast a spell on him that slowed his aging (physical and mental) to a crawl. His age seems to be approximately equivalent to the Mane 6 in current AU time! Most of the early events of g4 are the same in my head. Luna is back now, and she and Laurie actually get along quite well! He wears the moons on his bridle and boots as tribute to her.
Another odd thing about him is the patch of feathers on his back- when Celestia sculpted him, she was thinking mostly of Luna. The carving was originally an alicorn, like her. However; when she unconsciously animated him his wings disappeared and left only the feathers. In my AU alicorn status can only be earned, not inherited or created! I’ll deal with the flurry heart situation later…
He doesn’t have a cutie mark because he never really got a chance to explore the world or himself until g4 comes along. He doesn’t even know if he can earn one with his unique circumstances, and resents his mother for it a little… Sometimes he might wonder if she created him without one on purpose, although he always feels guilty for thinking it later.
A rather placid and tranquil family... save for Zephyr.
Ignore that there's the old Fluttershy design in the height chart, I'm too lazy to change it
Of course, if Fluttershy is half bat, that meant that one of her parents had to be a bat pony too, and I decided to go with Mrs. Shy! I just loved the idea of an old lady bat who looks inconspicuous but can be vicious when needed.
Mrs. Shy is also where Fluttershy gets her "scary eyes" from (they are essentially a bat thing), and her mother 100% used them on Discord the first time she met him. It had no effect on him, of course, but she found it interesting rather than upsetting.
Also, I looked online, and it seems like Mr. and Mrs. Shy have no official names, but people have generally agreed to call them Gentle Breeze and Posey Shy, respectively, which are perfect. It also implies that Gentle Breese took Posey's last name instead of the reverse, which I love even more!
And if Fluttershy is half bat, that meant her brother had to be too, and I am really trying my best not to redraw him because I hate the way I drew the wings now.
I don't know much about Zephyr outside the fact that he's an ass, and I think I don't need to know more, honestly.

I imagine Laurie was a pretty leggy child. His mane was longer for a bit and ! For fun! He is quite sensitive to bright lights (another reason he would come to enjoy his aunt Luna’s company when she gets released from moon-imprisonment). While all of Luna’s moonlight is mild enough for his eyes, he would often find himself squinting painfully at his mother’s early mornings.

I really wanted Celestia to look regal here, almost otherworldly. To make this extra difficult I changed up her color scheme a ton lol
The plain white of her g4 design is pretty and elegant I guess but I feel like it just doesn’t have that punch that I wanted… so instead I gave her a color theme I cobbled together from a bunch of photos of sunsets. I would have liked to give her some more pink, but it felt muddled whenever I tried.
Her face is the brightest point in the new design- I wanted her to look like the sun :] but she’s also very tired post nightmare moon. The stars interspersed within her cutie mark and the darker blues in her hair, flank, and forehooves could even be stains from the event, or side effects of having to take on Luna’s moon responsibilities in her absence. I think the face design gets dangerously close to clown paint but I got very attached and refuse to change it
The last thing I added is a ton of wings to give her a hint of that ‘be not afraid’ type of immortal quality, I see people do that a lot with redesigns and I wanted to try it too!
