escaping was never part of the plan.

the four walls of his cell are everything oliviero wants to know. the monotony only ever proved to be comforting in its never-changing rhythm. when the walls of the prison crumbled around him he found the darkest corner of broken cement and curled up to stay there however long it would take— when other prisoners started fighting for the scraps he crawled out to emerge victorious among them.

leaving wasn't an option. he didn't desire it. this was all he had ever known.

except.

nicolette left him behind.

her self-absorbed nature left for little other options. all she ever talked about was escaping, getting out to a life that didn't want any of them. what was normalcy to rabid animals? he expected her to die after setting ten steps outside of the prison's perimeter. perhaps even sooner, if any of the guards put up a fight.

yet here she is. blissfully untouched.

not for long.

the viper barely has any meat on his bones. he makes little sound when he moves. once in reach, his hand grabs nicolette's hair and pulls— nails digging into her scalp, his eyes are wide and cold when he wrenches her head back to be able to look at him.
