When Katerina called him disgusting, his demeanor changed. He went from smirking to a blank look, and then a bit of sorrow painted in the blue of his eyes. Disgusting? He was the victim in all this. It was her family that tainted him. If anyone were disgusting it would be her family. But then she already knew that. It was evident that she wasn't too fond of them. Maybe she was the exception in a family so corrupt. â..Heâs going to care.â Vince snapped out of his reverie when Katerina began fussing about the details. âHeâs your brother. Right? So somewhere, deep down, he still cares!â He exclaimed, biting at his knuckle, as if going over all these choices he made. Were they wrong? Did he nap the wrong Rinaldi? No. No, a Rinaldi is a Rinaldi. âHere, letâs do this. This phone, it has a camera, right? Yeah of course it doesâŚâ He said with smug bitterness. Her family was too rich for her to have some cheap knock off.
A light on the phone came on, followed by a ding sound, signaling that it was now recording. âSo what do we have here? hm? A scared little lamb? And where is her hero now? Are you gonna stand idly by, Stefan? Hm. Are you gonna call up your men. Tell them that I need to be finished once and for all, as you continue to hide in the shadows like a little bitch?â âOr are you gonna be a man. A real man, and come save your sister. Because if you donât- this girl will be dead by sunrise. And then, and then Iâll continue picking the rest of the apples from your families' tree. Mm.â Pushing another pill into his mouth, with the camera on him, Vince turned the phone toward Katerina, just as he forced his mouth to hers, using his tongue to push the medication down her throat. The forced kiss was near violent and when it was over, Vince stood up and faced the camera down on the young girl. âDo you wanna know where your sister is, cowboy? Or do you think she can sleep over tonight? I promise not to keep her up too late,â He laughed, stopping the video, and then sent it to Stefan. âItâs okay. The pill is only a boost. Itâll make you feel alive.â Walking across the room, Vince turned on an old radio. Rock music filled the confined space, and Vince placed the phone down on top of the speaker before lighting up a cigarette. âLook, Iâm sorry about the kiss, okay? It was all just a show for big brother. Iâm not gonna hurt you. I wanna make this as comfortable for you as I can. Tell me what you want, and Iâll get it for you. I mean, weâre just hanging out. Nothings gonna happen. Youâre just my light⌠to catch a bad moth. Iâm not gonna break the bulb. I need you. You should feel flattered.â Exhaling the smoke from his cigarette, Vince turned up the music and entered another room.
When he returned to the main room, he had a mobile television with a game console hooked up. âItâs PlayStation 3. I mean, X-BOX, it just doesn't do it for me, you know?â He smiled, connecting the wires, with a cigarette dangling from his lips. âThereâs also a pizza in the oven and some sodas in the fridge.â He turned his head to the side with a squinty-eyed smile. âDonât look so grumpy, Katerina. Câmon. Weâre just- weâre just having funnn. I mean, come on, video games, pizza, itâs not like Iâm doing to you what they did to me. They tried drowning me, they beat me to a pulp, electrocuted me, cut me up,â Lifting the lower part of his shirt up, Vince rotated his hips, showing the healing cuts that marked his abs and chest. âYour brother. He was the mastermind behind it all. He didn't like me being with your sister. For reasons unknown. But he hated it so much that he lied to your father and said that I was disloyal, so they tortured me, for days. I had accepted death- but they wouldn't give it to me. They just kept on carving away, until there was nothing left. When they finally released me⌠I was broken. But I had this, this I donât know what itâs called, but this feeling of strength- your sister, Alessandra. She was that strength. I wanted to stay alive for her. She had to know that I was innocent and so I ran to her. And you know what she did? She told me she never loved me. She told me I was just ⌠another number. And that led us to where we are, now. And Iâm sorry you got involved. I couldn't take her. But you, you were a sitting duck. They donât look after you as well as they do her. Which is fucked up, I know. So youâre right, maybe they wonât care. But itâs all I got. And Iâm sorry for this⌠this..thing. But I donât mean it. Its not you who I need to teach a lesson. Itâs just⌠you know, youâre in relations with my problem. But I donât wanna hurt you or make you feel attacked. I promise not to do anything to you. Okay? Youâre just a means to an end. So, hang out with me. Thatâs all you have to do. I wonât drug you, I wonât attack you, I wonât try to scare you.â tossing her a game controller, Vince turned on the system. âItâs Injustice. Gods among us. The game.  Itâs uh, superheroes and shit. Kinda like Mortal Kombat. Youâll like it, trust me.â He smirked, leaving the room to get the pizza and drinks. When he returned once more, he set the food down between them, keeping a good enough distance from her, just in case she wanted to lash out at him and claw his eyes out.Â
