Birthday or No Birthday? - K.S
Pairings: Kim Seungmin x Reader
Warnings: Curse words. Reader gets stressed out thinking Seungming forgot about her birthday. He might have done that.
Summary: Does your boyfriend remember today's your birthday?
“Are you sure that’s going to work?” Felix asked Seungmin, who was gathering all the ingredients needed to make the strawberry-chocolate cake.
“Yeah,” Seungmin nodded. “I just need you to tell me the measurements and guide me.”
“I told you I could help you make it.”
“And I told you I wanted to make it myself, because she’s my girlfriend and I want to give her something she likes.”
"You threw her a surprise party, you bought her three Pochaccos, a bracelet and a new PuppyM”
“So?”
There was silence for a few minutes. “Okay, crush the cookies. Those will be your base.”
“Seriously, he hasn't told you anything?” your best friend, Yuri, said as the two of you left campus
“Nothing,” you said. He left for practice really early this morning,” you told him. “He just gave me a kiss on the forehead and that was it.”
“And no message yet?” You shook your head again. A strange feeling in the pit of your stomach.
You didn't want to believe that your boyfriend of three years had actually forgotten your birthday.
“Y/N-” your friend said, and you cut her off
“He's been busy lately,” you defended Seungmin, “but I'm sure he hasn't forgotten; he's just a little swamped with his own stuff.” You gave a forced smile. “I have to go. Can we talk later?”
Your friend was surprised by your sudden change. “Weren’t we going to grab a bite to eat?”
“I’m not really hungry right now.”
“Hey, I’m sorry if I said something I shouldn’t have.” You shook your head. You raised your hand.
“It’s okay. I’m fine. Shall we set up that lunch for tomorrow? I’ll text you, sweetie.” You gave her a quick hug and got into the taxi
He wouldn't do that, would he?
Seungmin is the kind of guy who, even if it doesn't seem like it, cares about his loved ones and goes out of his way to help them. He shows his love in his own way, and with you, it wasn't any different.
That said, he's the kind of guy who remembers important dates. He had been so excited three days ago about your birthday, teasing you about being a year older.
So... Why hadn't he congratulated you yet today?
You checked your phone once again
Messages from your family, your friends, the guys—everyone except him...
The guys had texted you. If they had taken the time to pick up their phones and write a message, why couldn't he have done the same?
You didn't want to lose your mind.
You left your phone on your lap, watching the buildings go by.
You sighed.
“Felix, this is a disaster!”
“You put in way too much baking powder!”
“I followed your instructions!”
“You didn't measure it right!”
“It's overflowing!”
“Get it out of there!”
Seungmin put on his oven mitts and took the cake out; the parts that were spilling over fell onto the floor he’d just cleaned with the guys.
“Shit.”
“How does it look?”
“It looks bad, Felix.”
“How bad is it?”
“Really bad”
“On a scale of 1 to 10?”
“20”
“Shit”
“What do I do?” Seungmin glanced at his watch. “Y/N must have gotten out of class by now. She must be on her way home! I don't have a cake for her.”
“Do you have time to run to the bakery and buy something?”
"I don't know. The bakery is about 15 minutes away."
“What if she comes and I'm not here? What if she sees all this? It's not ready yet.”
“It'll be worse if you keep talking and don't just leave already.”
“You're right. I'm leaving now. Bye.” And with that, Seungmin hung up.
What Seungmin didn’t know was that you were already halfway there.
“Traffic?” you asked.
“Yes, ma’am. Apparently there was a crash,” the taxi driver told you. “But they’re already clearing other roads.” You nodded. “We’ll be at your destination in about 10 minutes.”
You nodded, picking up your phone.
No messages from Seungmin. You put in an earbud, and with the press of a button, music filled your ears.
“Okay. Here you go,” Seungmin said, setting the cake down on the counter. “Let's fix this up.” He looked at what had once been his creation.
Well, there was nothing to fix. The layers had run together, the presentation was ruined, and the cake wasn't fully baked.
The kitchen floor was a mess, the inside of the oven was just as bad, and the dishwasher had taken the brunt of it since he’d left it there when he took it out.
Seungmin got to work; he used a spatula to try to scrape off the chocolate that had stuck to the floor, and the same went for the batter; there was strawberry meringue all over the floor.
It was a miracle the house wasn't swarming with ants. For now.
Five minutes later, Seungmin was still in the same spot, cleaning up.
He wouldn’t have to go to the gym for the next three days. He was getting enough arm and shoulder work done right here.
“It won’t come off,” he sighed. “Damn it!”
He was so absorbed in cleaning that he didn’t hear the door open and close.
“What’s all this?”
Seungmin’s head snapped around. “You weren’t supposed to be here yet.”
“What?”
“You’re supposed to be here in 10 minutes!” Seungmin said in a panic.
“Well, I got here early. What’s going on?” You tried to step further into the kitchen, but Seungmin stood up and blocked your way.
“You can’t.”
“What do you mean, no?”
“You can't.”
“Seungmin, what were you doing lying on the floor, honey?”
“I wasn't lying down, I was cleaning.” Your eyebrows shot up.
“What were you cleaning?”
“Something,” he said slowly. You sighed and tried to go around him, but Seungmin blocked you. You tried the other way—same result.
“Can I come in?”
“Not yet.”
“I'd like a glass of water, Min,” you said, sounding a little tired.
Seungmin turned around and took a bottle of water out of the fridge. “Here you go.”
You sighed. “Thanks.” You stood on your tiptoes and kissed him on the lips. “I’m going to the living room for a moment.”
“Okay,” Seungmin nodded without paying much attention, but a few seconds later, he changed his mind. “Wait!”
When he walked into the room, he saw you standing right in the middle of it all.
“You weren't supposed to come in yet.”
“Seungmin,” you said, tears welling up in your eyes, “Did you remember my birthday?”
“Of course I did. Why would you think—?” You cut him off by jumping into his arms.
“You're the best, did you know that?” Seungmin let out a little laugh.
“I just wanted to do something for you, because you're the most special person in my life. And on a day like today, your parents brought you into the world.” He set you down on the floor again; you could see he was a little flushed, avoiding your gaze. "My other half was born today. How could I ever forget?" You squealed happily and planted another kiss on his lips
“I love you so much, Min. Thank you so much.”
“Don't mention it.” This time, he kissed you. “You look really pretty today.” You blushed.
“Is that a big Pochacco I see there?” Seungmin nodded.
“You can put a pink bow on it if you want.”
“Of course I will!” You laughed excitedly, hopping up and down with joy. “What were you doing in the kitchen, by the way?” Seungmin’s eyes widened, and he grabbed the sponge he’d dropped when he carried you in his arms.
