it really will always shock me the way incest and csa are so prevalent yet the societal gut reaction would have you thinking this is super rare and if it does happen the perpetrator has his head on a stick. yet in reality it's commonplace in child neglect/abuse cases for there to be generational abuse--like, the mother was raped by her grandfather and is mentally unwell caring for unwanted children in extreme poverty. there is a stereotype of incest and poverty in the US and it's mainly situations like this, not exactly funny. churches are also so casual about protecting sexual predators while at the same time spouting rhetoric about the dangers of grooming or whatever. I do believe people tend to think they are the exception. it's only pedophilia if it fits your preexisting biases. I was reading an article on the worldview of musk et all and the concept of 'primal fathers'. some men do feel an entitlement in this way and network with those who feel the same.
